Paraprofessional - Long-Term Substitute (ASAP to February 15, 2026)
Montclair Public Schools is seeking a Paraprofessional to provide classroom support at Buzz Aldrin Middle School. The position is open until filled, with start date ASAP.

Reports To Principal/Classroom Teacher
Job Responsibilities Assist the classroom teacher by working with individual and/or small groups of disabled or non-disabled students, providing physical help, emotional support, and instructional assistance to facilitate optimal learning. Responsibilities include:
Assist in delivering an effective instructional program.
Work with students to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher.
Operate and care for instructional equipment.
Help students master assigned equipment or instructional materials.
Engage students in conversations to encourage language development.
Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other instructional materials.
Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work assigned by the teacher.
Assist in supervising students during non-instructional times, such as drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
Help plan and maintain bulletin board and other classroom displays.
Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in oral communication activities.
Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and makeup work as assigned.
Perform clerical duties related to the instructional program, including attendance reports, collection of money, duplication of materials, and distribution of notices to home.
Assist pupils with projects, crafts, and curriculum tasks.
Provide services that conform to district objectives, board policies, administrative directions, and state laws/regulations.
Assist students with personal care needs such as clothing, snack time routines, and toileting when required.
Support students with behavioral challenges to participate successfully in classroom, social, and home activities.
Participate in in-service training as assigned.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Special Education Responsibilities
Assist in caring for the physical and emotional needs of special education students, including dressing and moving them between rooms and using the lavatory.
Assist in loading and unloading special education students from transportation.
Aid physically handicapped students, especially those relying on appliances, prosthetics, or assistive technologies.
Promote attainment of educational goals and learning objectives by providing supplemental services that support the teacher in delivering, modifying, and adapting materials and access.
Assist in delivering IEP-required services.
Qualifications
New Jersey Substitute Teacher, CEAS, CE, or NJ Standard Certificate required.
Demonstrated ability to work well with others.
Knowledge of child growth and development and appropriate classroom practices preferred.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work on site during required hours.
Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
Terms of Employment Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education and any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Evaluation annually per board policy.
