Our client is seeking a talented Associate to join its Electrical/Computer Science practice group in Seattle. This role involves working on cutting‑edge technologies and providing high‑quality intellectual property counseling for clients in the semiconductor and chip architecture/manufacturing spaces. The position offers the opportunity to collaborate with some of the world’s most technologically advanced companies and assume significant client responsibilities under the supervision of senior practitioners.
Responsibilities
Interview inventors to learn about new ideas to be patented.
Prepare and prosecute patent applications.
Investigate and prepare non‑infringement and invalidity opinions.
Occasionally participate in patent litigation to provide technical support.
Perform related client counseling tasks.
For Associates: Advocate before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including writing and amending claims and analyzing patents and publications related to high‑tech inventions.
Communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff while delivering high‑quality services to domestic and foreign clients.
Required Qualifications
Previous law firm experience required; Am Law 200, leading regional, or major boutique firm experience preferred.
J.D. with strong academic credentials; top third of law school class preferred.
Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science.
Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state and qualified to sit for the Washington bar exam.
Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
Understanding of e‑commerce systems, financial systems, mobile applications, communications systems, and/or process control systems.
Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for Patent Agents/Technical Specialists.
