Position Overview The Country Club of Virginia is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead all accounting, reporting, and financial operations for one of the nation's most respected private clubs. Reporting to the Chief Business Officer (CBO), the Director of Finance serves as a trusted partner and financial steward, overseeing an accounting team responsible for accounts payable, receivable, payroll coordination, member billing, treasury, and general ledger operations. The role is central to preserving CCV's financial strength through accuracy, compliance, and strategic insight, ensuring that every financial process aligns with the Club's mission of excellence, stewardship, and member service.
Position Purpose The Director of Finance serves as the senior financial leader responsible for day‑to‑day financial operations, accounting excellence, and financial reporting integrity at The Country Club of Virginia. This role leads the accounting team and ensures the Club's financial operations support CCV's mission of financial stewardship, operational excellence, and member service. The Director of Finance is a trusted partner to the CBO, translating strategic financial direction into operational excellence while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, compliance, and internal controls. This role is critical to preserving CCV's exceptional financial position and supporting data‑driven decision‑making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities Financial Operations Leadership
Lead all financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, member billing, and month‑end close processes
Oversee member billing operations, charge accuracy, and dispute resolution
Provide indirect oversight of payroll function, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Manage cash handling procedures, daily reconciliations, and banking relationships
Deliver timely, accurate monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with Club policies
Ensure timely, accurate reporting to the CBO, GM/COO, and senior leadership
Prepare Board of Directors financial packages with clear narratives and analysis
Develop executive dashboards and KPIs to monitor operational performance
Monitor performance, variance, and trend analysis to support decision‑making
Analyze results and provide department heads with clear tools and insights to support informed budget decisions
Budgeting & Forecasting
Support the CBO in developing annual operating and capital budgets
Collaborate with department heads to create realistic, data‑informed budgets
Maintain rolling forecasts and long‑term financial planning models
Develop scenario analyses to support strategic planning and risk mitigation
Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls
Manage audit readiness and serve as primary contact with external auditors
Maintain strong internal controls, compliance, and documentation to safeguard assets and ensure regulatory compliance
Coordinate insurance coverage reviews and risk management practices
Lead documentation, remediation, and training related to control processes
Systems & Technology
Partner with IT to optimize club management and accounting systems, ensuring data integrity
Support financial technology transformation initiatives
Develop and maintain reporting tools and dashboards for business intelligence
Identify automation and process improvement opportunities across Accounting operations
Mentor and develop the accounting team to ensure capability and continuity
Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing accounting team
Conduct regular performance reviews and support professional growth
Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement
Build bench strength and succession planning within the Accounting team
The Ideal Candidate Will Demonstrate
Advanced accounting and GAAP expertise, including regulatory compliance and financial analysis
Leadership experience developing and mentoring accounting teams

Qualification Standards Education & Credentials
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
Experience
7–10 years progressive finance/accounting experience, including 3+ years in leadership
Proven success managing multi‑venue financial operations and accounting teams of 5+ professionals
Strong technical accounting and GAAP knowledge
Experience with external audits and financial statement preparation
Experience in private club, hospitality, or not‑for‑profit environment preferred
Key Relationships Internal Relationships
Reports to the Chief Business Officer (CBO), providing financial leadership, operational insight, and performance management
Partners with the General Manager/COO, Director of Membership, IT Director, and department heads across all Club operations
Directly manages accounting professionals, including accountants, AP/AR staff, and administrative support
Collaborates cross‑functionally with Facilities & Operations, Golf, Athletics, Food & Beverage, and HR for budgeting, analysis, and operational support
External Relationships
Primary liaison with external auditors, banking partners, and tax advisors
Coordinates with vendors, insurance representatives, and financial consultants
Represents CCV in professional finance and private club networks for benchmarking and best practices
Success Measures
Clean external audit with no material weaknesses or significant deficiencies
Monthly close completed within 15 business days with high accuracy
Accurate and timely financial reporting
Strong internal controls and compliance with all regulatory requirements
Budget process completed on schedule with robust departmental engagement
High team engagement, development, and retention within the Accounting department
