Duties and Responsibilities

Under general supervision, conduct lecture and, as appropriate, laboratory courses in the discipline.

Assist in the teaching of the didactic and continuing education programs.

Assist in medical education curriculum development and evaluation for EMS Programs.

Contribute to the clinical and internship curriculum and mentor students on clinical and internship rotations.

Supervise EMS students in the clinical learning environment.

Participate in assessment of course learning outcomes; may include instructional assignment involving distance education.

Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.

Possible evening, weekend and off‑campus assignments.

Conduct student evaluations of teaching effectiveness.

Adhere to all due dates, including the online submission of grades.

Minimum Qualifications Minuses:

Master’s degree

in Health Sciences, Biological Sciences, Nursing or EMS; AND

current EMT‑P certification

by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, AND current Hawai‘i certification as an MICT (or certification in progress); OR

Registered Nurse

and a current Hawai‘i State license as an RN.

or

Bachelor’s degree

in Health Sciences, Biological Sciences, Nursing, or EMS, AND 3 years of related work experience, including postsecondary teaching; at least one of the three years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience AND Current EMT‑P certification... (qualified as above).

or

Certification as a Paramedic

and a Baccalaureate degree in any field, AND 5 years related work experience, including postsecondary teaching; at least two of the five years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience, AND current EMT‑P certification, AND current Hawai‘i certification as an MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawai‘i State license as an RN.

or

Associate Degree in MICT

and 5 years related work experience, including postsecondary teaching; at least two of the five years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience, AND current EMT‑P certification, AND current Hawai‘i certification as an MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawai‘i State license as an RN.

or

Medical Doctor

AND current Hawai‘i license as an MD; Board eligible or board certified in emergency medicine.

Desirable Qualifications

Demonstrated commitment and/or experience promoting a positive academic environment.

Demonstrated commitment and/or experience supporting the success of students.
