Job Summary CenterPoint Energy is looking for a Senior Site/Civil Engineer to join our Substation Engineering team, located in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will be responsible for performing site feasibility studies and overseeing the design, engineering, permitting and construction of substation site development projects from inception to completion. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil site design and project management, along with excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage multiple civil site engineering projects from conception to construction completion, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule adherence.
Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Familiarity with current local, state, and federal land use permitting is a plus.
Perform site engineering design reports and technical documents.
Review site engineering designs (internal and external), reports, and technical documents.
Use reports, FEMA maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial imagery to assess terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geological data to produce site feasibility studies.
Prepare cost estimates and cost analysis.
Prepare bid packages and lead pre‑bid meetings.
Provide contract award recommendations.
Analyze proposals, bids, and site contractors.
Provide mentorship and leadership to project teams, including junior engineers and support staff.
Collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders to deliver comprehensive engineering solutions.
Ensure quality control with regulatory standards, industry best practices, and company policies.
Perform project management functions associated with contract engineering resources.
Attend kickoff meetings and other site visits to support project work and constructability issues.
Support the construction, operation, and maintenance of CNP substation infrastructure through effective communication with field personnel and contractors.
Interface with inspectors, engineers, construction personnel, warehousing personnel, purchasing agents, vendors and management regarding materials and standards development, procurement, and packaging issues.
Perform accurate engineering design calculations and analysis.
Develop design options or recommendations for substation site designs.
Review and evaluate existing and new technology, engineering methods and operating philosophies for potential system improvement.
Produce technical reports to document analysis results and engineering recommendations.
Perform field inspections before, during and after construction.
Use appropriate software and platforms for engineering applications.
Participate in development and stretch responsibilities beyond duties to foster continuous growth and development.
Education Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
Experience
Requires a minimum of four (4) years relevant site engineering or land development experience.
Professional Engineering (PE) License required.
Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D required.
Proficient in MicroStation preferred.
