Executive Underwriter, Private Equity Middle Market
Salary Range
— $81,000.00/yr - $225,000.00/yr. Pay is based on skills and experience. This role may include commission and bonus.
As an Executive Private Equity Underwriter, you'll develop, grow, and maintain a profitable, diversified book of private equity business through marketing, underwriting decisions, agent/broker relationships, leadership presence, and application of underwriting tools and systems. You will guide and mentor less experienced underwriters and participate in projects advancing company goals.
Responsibilities
Risk Selection – Review, rate, underwrite, evaluate risks, determine premium, policy terms, obtain approvals, present proposals, negotiate deals.
Agent/Broker Relationships – Respond to key agents/brokers, provide service, conduct site visits and renewal meetings, build a high quality pipeline.
Portfolio Management – Analyze the book, identify growth opportunities, execute marketing plans, increase market share, provide input on marketing, product, services, geography, and broker intelligence.
Deal Documentation – Document files with comprehensive reviews, sign‑offs and referrals complying with regulations, license, and underwriting guidelines.
Leadership – Guide, mentor, coach underwriters and account analysts in technical and professional skills. Provide updates to peers.
Continuous Improvement – Generate suggestions, participate in problem‑solving activities, and use improvement tools to support the team.
Private Equity – Manage portfolio company relationships and an aggregated PE Firm level approach.
Qualifications
Degree in Business or equivalent.
Minimum 7 years, typically 10+ years, of progressive underwriting or related business experience.
CPCU or other professional insurance designation preferred.
Proven analytical ability to evaluate underwriting risks.
Effective communication skills to convey complex analyses written and orally.
Strong interpersonal skills with internal and external stakeholders.
Deep understanding of complex underwriting issues and ability to design processes.
Track record of developing and underwriting profitable business.
