Executive Office of Early Learning - State Office Teacher (12‑Month Contract) Masters in Early Childhood Education preferred.

This position provides professional learning support to Hawaii Department of Education schools offering pre‑kindergarten classrooms. The role leads to improvements in the knowledge, skills, practices, and dispositions of pre‑kindergarten teachers and educational assistants, resulting in high‑quality learning opportunities for children and families.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and provide professional learning experiences within a specific area of inquiry related to teacher role, child development, quality interactions, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and family engagement.

Use evidence‑based practices, adult learning principles, and structured connections between research, theory and practice.

Provide or facilitate access to early childhood professional resources and information for teaching staff based on professional growth plans and inquiry; also assist administrators.

Act as a liaison between schools and the state office, facilitating communication and coordination of the pre‑kindergarten program.

Collaborate with the team to establish goals, develop implementation plans, evaluate the program, coordinate work with colleagues, and prepare reports.

Engage in ongoing professional learning, participatory action research, and collaborative work groups with administrators and other early childhood professionals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Child development and learning principles, developmentally appropriate practice, curriculum design, formative assessment, data analysis, and family engagement.

Coaching/mentoring and team building.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, handle multiple tasks, and collaborate with legislators, department directors, and stakeholder groups; excellent oral and written communication skills.

Must be able to drive to schools and travel inter‑island to support schools, teachers, and professional development.

Minimum Qualifications

Completed a State Approved Teacher's Education Program (SATEP) to qualify for this teacher position.

A Master's degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in early childhood education or child development is preferred.

Minimum 6 years experience as an early childhood teacher; experience working with adult learners.

Upon hiring, must have a valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit; if not licensed, obtain a teaching license within 3 years of employment and enroll in a continuing education program.
