Wage Range: $33.89 - $54.23 per hour
Remote ONLY to Washington State residents
Posted wage ranges represent the entire range from minimum to maximum. For jobs with more than one level, the posted range reflects the minimum of the lowest level and the maximum of the highest level. Some positions also offer additional premiums based on shift, certifications or degrees. Job offers are determined based on a candidate's years of relevant experience, level of education and internal equity.
Job Summary Responsible for researching and resolving complex coding and reimbursement issues to ensure the accuracy, quality and integrity of coding and billing practices. Supports internal and external documentation and coding review activities and makes recommendations on how these can be improved. Provides high-level content knowledge, expertise, and leadership on a particular specialty of coding, such as inpatient, ambulatory surgery, home health, emergency department, obstetrics, or diagnostic imaging. Reviews payor denials with critical thinking to assess why they are occurring. Performs trend analysis and based on this information, trains and educates coders in their specialty to avoid future recurrence.
Primary Duties
Reviews the Epic Hospital Based (HB) Coding Work queues and prioritizes / delegates work to specialty coding group so that critical accounts are addressed with greater priority.
Performs regular analytical review of denial trends and creatively develops new and innovative methods to prevent future denials.
Writes IT tickets describing operational issues that adversely affect the Revenue Cycle and how the IT department can resolve repeating problems with improved automation.
Works closely with HB Coding leadership on new or changing coding requirements as published by Commercial Payors, CMS and/or other regulatory agencies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
License, Certification, Education or Experience REQUIRED for the position:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Credentialed through accredited coding program (AHIMA, AAPC)
One of the following credentials: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, COC, or CIC
5 years of experience of inpatient and/or outpatient coding experience in an acute care hospital
Experience working with Epic EHR and Optum encoder applications
Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and sequencing guidelines
Comprehensive understanding of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes
Experience in network telecommuting environment and high-level understanding of data security issues
