About the Institution BUMCP is a 766-bed, Magnet-recognized, ACS-verified Level 1 Trauma Center (adult-only), affiliated with the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. The Trauma Division includes 12 faculty, 10 APPs, and provides comprehensive trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care services. The division is actively expanding elective surgery volume and integrating advanced surgical technologies.
Position Highlights Academic appointment at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix, commensurate with experience. Key focus on clinical research development, fellowship program support, and trauma program advancement. Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment with high acuity in trauma, acute care, and critical care patients. Contribute to the academic development of medical students, residents, and fellows through teaching and mentorship.

Minimum Qualifications
Board Certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
Fellowship training in Trauma, Acute Care and Surgical Critical Care
Minimum of 5 years post-fellowship experience
Active or eligible Arizona medical license and DEA registration
ATLS Instructor certification
Demonstration of research leadership with recent (within last 3 years) publications, academic activity, and professional society involvement
Prior Academic or Teaching Excellence Awards
Strong commitment to education, collaboration, and health equity
Additional Desired Skill Qualifications
Chest wall stabilization (Rib Plating)
Robotic Surgery
Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) or Thoracotomy
Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) Tube
Abdominal Wall Reconstruction
Cutaneous Grafting
Tracheostomy
Cricothyroidotomy
Practice Details
A multidisciplinary team providing care across Trauma Surgery, Emergency General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and Outpatient Follow-up Clinics
Participation in Emergency, Trauma surgery and ICU calls (180 shifts annually)
Adult Level 1 ACS Verified and State Designated Trauma Center
Donor Care Center – uniquely housed within and managed by our critical care team
Affiliation with the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix Research Institution
