We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to join the Computing Products Hardware Department within the Displays, Computing & Networking Directorate. Our team develops advanced hardware solutions for products and systems used for data concentration, advanced I/O processing and application hosting, and synthetic vision for military, commercial, business, and regional aircraft platforms.
This role will be integral in implementing next generation processing solutions into these safety‑critical products. This role also supports all phases of the hardware development lifecycle—program pursuit, requirements capture, design, integration, verification, factory transition and sustainment.
Salary range: 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD.
This position may be eligible for relocation.
What You Will Do
Define hardware architecture at the product level
Maintain architecture and design authority throughout development lifecycle
Lead Requirements and Architectural Reviews (RAR)
Mentor less experienced engineers
Define standard work and best practices at the department level
Serve as subject matter expert in design reviews, non‑advocate reviews, design lifecycle artifact reviews, etc.
Support products at all phases of the product lifecycle (design & development, transition to production, factory support, service support)
Obsolescence resolution activities
Requirements capture, validation and verification
Execution of complex microprocessor and FPGA based circuit board design including schematic capture, part selection, and simulation
Oversight of complex printed circuit board layout
Implement designs that are optimized for a balance of cost, manufacturability and testability
Implement designs that are in strict compliance with DO‑160 and DO‑254 standards
Prepare and present project technical information to peers and internal/external customers
Prepare artifacts and package submittals for product design approval certifications (TSO, PMA, etc.)
5-10% travel as needed
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.
Schematic capture of digital/analog mixed‑signal electrical circuit designs.
PCB layout experience.
Experience with hardware/software/systems integration.
Qualifications We Prefer
Experience as a technical lead on projects and ability to work collaboratively with team members
Experienced in a lab environment performing hands on troubleshooting with complex engineering equipment
Experience with PowerPC/Intel/ARM
PCB layout expertise
Experience implementing designs in compliance with DO‑160 and DO‑254 standards
Experience interfacing with complex embedded devices (microprocessors, graphics processors, memory)
Formal qualification experience (preferred DO‑160 standards)
Experience with taking products through civil certifications (TSO, PMA, TC, etc.)
Experience interfacing with manufacturing personnel and processes
Understanding of Design to Cost (DTC+), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT)
Project leadership experience
