Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
4+ years of utility-scale substation design experience
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois (EIT or registration in alternate states welcome)

Essential Duties
Provide engineering and technical direction to project managers and engineering staff in the preparation of electrical studies, reports, plans, specifications, and construction drawings.
Design and develop protection and control (P&C) schemes for utility substations, including relay logic, breaker failure, and bus differential protection.
Prepare and review detailed engineering drawings such as one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and logic diagrams.
Provide substation P&C design documents and support the development of general arrangements, cross-sections, details, and Bills of Material.
Guide the creation of complete drawing packages for substations, including both protection/control and physical design documents.
Respond to complex technical inquiries from clients and project teams, and provide field support during commissioning, troubleshooting, and fault investigations.
Ensure compliance with NERC, FERC, IEEE, and regional reliability standards (e.g., MRO, SERC).
Collaborate with SCADA, communications, and operations teams to integrate protection systems with control centers.
Monitor project progress, ensure design specifications are met, and perform work within established schedules and budgets.
Provide directions to project staff to ensure coordination, completeness, and accuracy of technical deliverables.
Interpret and review wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications with a high level of accuracy.
Support the engineer’s opinion of probable construction cost and assist in estimating materials, equipment, and labor.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members and support their training and development.
Support proposal development, project budgeting, billing, and accounts receivable tracking.
May sign/seal drawings or other required documentation based on division and firm policies.
Follow and abide by the employee and safety manuals.
Completes other duties as assigned.
