Finance Director
to help drive this mission forward, based in either Austin, TX, or Denver/Boulder, CO.
You’ll be responsible for spearheading financial operations while collaborating with the Director of Operations and CEO, and set high standards for operational ownership, efficiency, follow‑through, and incorporate feedback and input from the wider team. This role will have a major impact on organization health and growth so your vision for financial operations is crucial. You’ll report to the CEO to review and assess current financial operations, conduct in‑depth financial analysis and work with all business units to create a financial roadmap for future growth. You will oversee outsourced teams responsible for accounting, state incorporation and tax filings, and build an internal team when appropriate with Company growth. You care deeply about improving efficiency and impact but always keep your mind open to new approaches to problem solving.
What you’ll do
Lead Financial analysis, planning and operations
Manage budgeting, forecasting and long‑term financial planning process
Generate and manage reporting and analysis to assist in company decision making and reporting metrics to the board
Manage financial vendors including banks, credit cards, software and tooling
Manage outsourced teams including ongoing CPA support, annual tax accountants, state filings and registered agents
Ensure compliance with financial processes, systems and policies
Provide oversight on tax, internal controls and audit‑related matters
Assist in reviewing new and existing customer contract pricing and payment terms
Spearhead all invoicing, AP and AR processes
Operationalize spending at Esper in a culturally conscious way
Oversee business inventory and assets
What we’re looking for
At least six years of experience working in financial analysis and management, preferably in an environment dealing with technology and/or SaaS products
Knowledge of financial compliance measures
Experience overseeing accounting, tax filing and state incorporation functionality
Experience with a variety of organizational and financial tools including Gsuite, QuickBooks, bill.com, Excel, Rippling, etc.
Exceptional organizational skills, resourceful, reliable, and detail‑oriented
Ability to work independently and autonomously within a distributed team while soliciting feedback when necessary
Ability to think strategically around trade‑offs and short‑term vs. long‑term benefits
Exceptional analytical skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
An adaptive, empathetic, collaborative, curious, and positive mindset
Bonus experience
Working with distributed teams
Experience and knowledge of Government procurement and billing procedures
Experience in a high‑growth startup environment
