Freeman Company, a global leader in event management and experience design, invites applications for the
Corporate Counsel
position located in Chicago, IL. The role reports to the VP, Associate General Counsel and supports our legal team with a hybrid schedule requiring 2‑3 days per week in‑office or at show site.
Overview As Corporate Counsel, you will partner closely with management, procurement, and the sales organization to negotiate commercial agreements and other legal documents. Your strategic legal support will protect the company’s interests while aligning with business objectives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including customer contracts, vendor agreements, RFPs, letters of intent, confidentiality agreements, software licenses, and independent contractor agreements.
Advises and educates the enterprise on contract review processes and sets expectations.
Collaborates with the sales organization to understand business terms, applies legal principles, and advises the business network.
Serves as the liaison between company departments and outside counsel.
Participates in department meetings and communicates status of work clearly.
Leads proactive team efforts, including business training to achieve departmental and company goals.
Demonstrates Freeman values in personal work behaviors, decision making, contributions, and interpersonal interactions.

Education & Experience
Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Active membership in a state bar and good standing in all related bars.
3–5 years of contract drafting, review, and negotiation experience.
In‑house counsel experience preferred but not required.
Demonstrated experience learning new areas of law and industry regulations.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and research skills.
Demonstrated attention to detail, written and oral communication, organization, multitasking, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Hiring range of $150,000 – $180,000 based on experience. Position also qualifies for an Annual Incentive Bonus (AIP).
