Position Title: Senior Manager, Corporate & External Affairs, R&D Portfolio
Location: Waltham, MA
Salary: $155,200.00 - $240,900.00
Position Purpose The Senior Manager, Corporate and External Affairs, R&D Portfolio will execute the corporate and external affairs strategy for CSL’s pipeline. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing communications for key pipeline milestones and clinical trials, managing issues and crisis related to the pipeline, and developing initiatives to strengthen the company’s reputation within the Waltham biotech ecosystem and the broader U.S. environment to enhance and protect CSL’s reputation and policy position.
Reporting Relationships Reports to: Associate Director, Corporate & External Affairs, R&D Portfolio
Main Responsibilities And Accountabilities
Support the Associate Director as a business partner and advisor to senior leaders, shaping and communicating portfolio development strategies and milestones to ensure alignment with business goals and stakeholder expectations.
Develop and execute communication plans for major pipeline milestones such as clinical trial initiations, data releases, and product approvals, collaborating with R&D and commercial teams to disseminate clear, compliant, and timely communications.
Act as a supporting partner to the regulatory policy team, providing input on advocacy opportunities and stakeholder engagement.
Manage the development and review of key communications materials for portfolio milestones, ensuring consistency with corporate messaging and standards.
Maintain reputation‑building initiatives within the Waltham biotech ecosystem and across the U.S., engaging with local biotech stakeholders, academic institutions, and industry groups to position the company as an innovator and responsible R&D leader.
Identify, assess, and manage potential issues and crises impacting R&D, coordinating timely and effective responses to safeguard the company’s reputation.
Ensure continuous content contribution regarding CSL’s pipeline for Group’s “owned” multimedia channels (e.g., Vita Newshub, Collab, CSL NOW) for internal and external stakeholders/audiences.
Support evaluation and reporting of key corporate affairs activities by gathering data, preparing updates, and contributing analysis for leadership review.
Position Qualifications And Experience Requirements Education
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, law, public policy, journalism, public relations, or a relevant business field
Ability to think critically and analytically
Experience
Minimum of 8+ years’ experience in government, public affairs, or communications
Experienced Corporate Affairs professional operating in a global environment
Understanding of corporate social responsibility principles and practice
Good knowledge of the public policy landscape, particularly in industry, manufacturing, and the biotech/medicine sector
Competencies
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and digital communication skills
Ability to form strong working relationships with stakeholders and partners
