General Purpose of Job The
Group Director, New Business
will bring an entrepreneurial mindset and energy to the role. They will lead all aspects of a new business opportunity, from decision‑to‑contract, managing the New Business team, working closely with agency leadership to present Rise as the best choice for clients. The director will act as a player/coach, mentoring the team while developing high‑level strategy and acting as the main client point of contact during pitches, ensuring excellence at every interaction. This role reports to Rise’s Head of Growth and focuses on pitching qualified opportunities, not on active prospecting.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all aspects of the pitch process from go/no go decision to contract signing.
Collaborate with internal groups, Betty (creative agency), and Quad (parent company) to assemble the best team, resources, and technologies.
Lead the team through the pitch narrative and client meetings for new business opportunities.
Achieve a quota in profitable business across all service lines (Media, Analytics, Web Experience).
Develop and cultivate new accounts through networking, trade resources, LinkedIn, marketing leads, etc.
Listen to, understand, and tailor communication to meet prospect needs and expectations.
Leverage Salesforce to manage and monitor team activities, ensuring accurate reporting and realistic pipeline forecasting.
Train the sales team to improve key behaviors via weekly one‑on‑one meetings and participation in sales meetings.
Maintain a deep understanding of assigned pitch‑relevant industries and prospective company advantages.
Manage hiring needs as warranted.
Work with the Marketing Department to share market data and request assets necessary for success.
Stay current on changes and best practices in media, marketing, and advertising.
Job Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree required.
Experience:
7‑10+ years of sales experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Experience building teams and narratives for new business opportunities, including omnichannel advertising, direct marketing, and e‑commerce.
Demonstrated success managing sales teams using Salesforce and leading pitch to close.
Proven track record of meeting quarterly and annual sales goals with strong employee retention.
Exceptional research, analysis, presentation, and written & verbal communication skills.
Strong knowledge of Salesforce, Google Apps Suite, and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
Ability to work independently while staying focused and productive.
Relationship‑management skills and industry contacts that can be leveraged.
Demonstrated leadership with the ability to motivate and drive maximum performance.
Strategic thinker with consulting skills and a keen eye for detail.
Self‑motivated and results‑driven team player who consistently exceeds goals.
Adaptability and flexibility in new situations.
Ability to travel as required for pitches and opportunities.
Employees can be expected to be paid an annualized salary range of $119,650 – $191,430, based on variations in knowledge, skills, experience and market conditions.
