Currie & Brown is seeking a highly experienced
Senior Commercial Manager
to join our team in
San Diego, CA . This role will provide strategic commercial leadership across large-scale construction programs, with a strong focus on post‑contract management, procurement oversight, financial governance, and commercial risk mitigation.
The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, collaborate closely with project managers and client teams, and bring a deep understanding of complex construction delivery, particularly within semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, or other mission‑critical environments.
Responsibilities
Lead the commercial strategy across the full project lifecycle, with a strong focus on post‑contract execution, cost control, and commercial performance
Develop, validate, and manage detailed project budgets, forecasts, and cost plans aligned with client and project objectives
Prepare, review, and manage RFPs, tender documents, bid evaluations, and contractor/supplier negotiations
Oversee the preparation, negotiation, and administration of construction contracts, including commercial terms, change control, and risk allocation
Work closely with Project Managers to support financial planning, contract interpretation, and commercial decisions
Conduct detailed quantity take‑offs, cost analyses, benchmarking, and unit‑rate reviews to support commercial recommendations
Review and verify pay applications, progress billings, and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance
Manage variations, assess cost and schedule impacts, negotiate outcomes, and maintain accurate budget updates
Lead procurement planning, supplier negotiations, and vendor performance management
Conduct financial and commercial reviews, track expenditures, and produce high‑quality reporting for clients and leadership
Ensure timely valuation of completed work and management of final accounts
Operate independently with sound commercial judgment while supporting and mentoring project teams
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to support successful project outcomes
Apply a deep understanding of construction methods, materials, sequencing, and field execution, specifically within semiconductor or other high‑tech environments
Requirements
Proven experience in commercial management, cost management, or quantity surveying within large‑scale construction programs
Strong knowledge of contract types and procurement strategies
Proficiency in cost management and financial analysis tools
Extensive understanding of construction methods, materials, and MEP systems
Ability to interpret architectural, engineering, and technical documentation
Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to assess cost, risk, and commercial exposure
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
High attention to detail and commitment to commercial accuracy
Ability to oversee multiple projects concurrently and manage competing priorities
Strong organizational and leadership capabilities
Qualifications & Education Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, construction management, or a related field with a minimum of 12 years of experience in quantity surveying. Professional certification or working towards a certification is a plus (RICS, AACE).
