Program Director – KCU Join to apply for the KCU Program Director role at Cedar Rapids Community School District.

SUMMARY The Program Director leads an innovative 7‑week summer learning program, serving students from 21 schools across four sites. The Director ensures all activities meet parents', district, and donor expectations, promoting a safe, equitable, and effective experience that closes the achievement gap and prepares students for a stronger start to the new school year. The role involves curriculum leadership and teacher oversight. The Director will spend ~20 hours per week in February–May and August, and 40 hours in June, preparing materials and training staff.

Program Period Summer program runs June 15 – July 31. Director hours: 7:30 AM–2:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the summer learning program, ensuring activities match stakeholder expectations.

Collaborate with district departments (Human Resources, Payroll, Transportation) to manage budget and fiscal responsibilities.

Assist in selecting certified teachers for the academic portion.

Support grant accountability and 21st‑Century Grant compliance.

Plan and execute training for summer staff.

Manage procurement of materials and track expenses in compliance with CRCSD policies.

Coordinate transportation with CRCSD busing department.

Communicate with parents, community members, and the KCU website/social media platform.

Maintain accurate records and confidentiality of data.

Travel between sites as needed.

Provide ongoing support and communication with principal, teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, and students.

Required Qualifications

Iowa Teaching Certification with endorsement in reading and elementary education.

Minimum of five years of teaching experience.

Experience leading teachers and overseeing curriculum.

Ability to plan, organize, and manage details comprehensively.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Proficiency in basic mathematics and literacy instruction.

Knowledge of current research related to district educational goals.

Physical Demands & Work Environment The position requires frequent standing, walking, using hands, and occasional lifting up to 50 lb. Work may occur indoors and outdoors, with occasional extended hours beyond the typical 7:30 AM–2:30 PM day.
