Best Friends Veterinary Hospital located in Poway, CA is looking for an exceptional Medical Director Veterinarian to help launch our new practice.
We are seeking an experienced veterinarian who strives to provide medical excellence and services to our Poway community and their beloved pets.
We are planning to re‑open Best Friends to better serve pet owners in our area by offering comprehensive veterinary and emergency services, as well as rehabilitative care.

Compensation and benefits: Amazing flexible work schedule (40 hours per week) Base salary $160,000–$200,000 (DOE) Quarterly no‑deficit carryover production plan available Annual medical director stipend paid bi‑weekly Lucrative sign‑on and retention bonuses with a multi‑year agreement Additional signing incentives available Relocation bonus up to $50,000 Paid vacation time (3 weeks) CE allotment and additional CE PTO (1 week) Full‑time benefits following 30 days Reimbursement for membership dues and license fees Healthy Minds Program & Employee Assistance Program Paid parental leave Numerous veterinary partner and retail discounts Our hospital will offer a great work environment, all new equipment, and a phenomenal culture.

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Associate General Practice Veterinarian (DVM) to join our team.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high‑quality veterinary care and possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with our clients.
You will work alongside a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and will collaborate closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager. Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups Communicate and educate clients Perform diagnostic procedures and surgery Maintain accurate medical records Prescribe medications and follow controlled substance protocols Promote teamwork and staff efficiency Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily hospital operations from intake to discharge Monitor cases and attend daily rounds when possible to ensure highest standards are upheld Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels Perform other duties as assigned by Management Qualifications (Required)
Veterinarian degree (DVM) from an accredited institution Current state veterinary license DEA registration maintained 1+ year of experience in a veterinary practice Strong diagnostic and clinical skills Excellent surgical and dental skills Team‑oriented work style Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Commitment to compassionate, high‑quality veterinary care Effective communication with medical and hospital staff Client communication skills, including rapport building and information elicitation Confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or painful pets Ability to perform moderate physical tasks, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skill in examining and assessing animals Strong problem‑solving ability related to high‑quality veterinary hospital management Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and internal staff Professionalism, constructive feedback, and teamwork Business acumen and understanding of veterinary hospital finances Knowledge of ethical principles guiding patient decisions Commitment to continuing education and facilitation of others’ learning What We Offer
