Perinatal Ultrasonographer III - Per Diem

When you join the growing BILH team, you’re not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives. This is a per diem position in the Maternal‑Fetal Medicine department located at One Brookline Place, a very busy, high‑acuity outpatient unit.
Job Description Essential Responsibilities
Select appropriate equipment and transducers for tests as ordered, consult with patients, obtain necessary information, explain procedures, allay apprehensions, and position the patient appropriately.
Assist physicians during sterile invasive procedures such as amniocentesis.
Import data and images into the ultrasound reporting package and PACS; provide images on film and paper when needed.
Detect pathology or other factors that may require follow‑up or change of shape, echogenicity, etc.; determine images appropriate for diagnostic purposes.
Assist other divisions during procedures, performing functions in areas outside the Ultrasound Suite, including the operating room, intensive care units, labor and delivery, ante‑partum, and triage units, using portable ultrasound equipment.
Participate in the education of physician trainees—OB/GYN residents, MFM fellows, and student sonographers—monitor and document progress of trainees, and contribute to orientation for new sonographers.
Develop new training tools or models to improve department efficiency and patient care and satisfaction.
Perform routine clerical duties: review daily clinic schedules, monitor urgent add‑ons and inpatient orders, review patient charts and maternal serum screening results, track inventory supplies, keep the work area clean, empty laundry, and stock rooms at the end of each shift.
Maintain an EPR system and ensure appropriate high‑level disinfection (HLD) of ultrasound transducers for patient protection and infection control. Employees receive initial training and yearly refresher training.
Participate in staff educational in‑house presentations of research and projects for monthly lunch‑and‑learn sessions; contribute to publishing articles for MFM ultrasound literature.
Required Qualifications
Vocational or technical training in Diagnostic Medical Sonography required; associate’s degree in ultrasound preferred.
Certificate 1 Reg Diagnostic Med Sonographer and Certificate 2 Basic Life Support required.
0–1 year related work experience required in MFM; formal clinical training in a high‑risk maternal‑fetal medicine organization required.
NT Certification required; new staff will have 30 days to complete certification.
Experience with computer systems required, including web‑based applications and some Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access).

Physical Nature Of The Job Very heavy work: exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force continually. Employee is physically active in all elements of the job.
Pay Range $50.40 – $74.89. The pay range listed is the base hourly wage range. Actual compensation may exceed the base rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, in accordance with law.
Vaccination Requirement Beth Israel Lahey Health requires that all staff be vaccinated against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment.
