Nature of Work Oversees nursing services to include supervision of all ICF RN’s, LPN’s, and CNA’s. As a key member of the leadership team, the DON fills in for the Chief ICF Administrator as assigned and works with the Director of Programming and Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) to ensure the supervision of the direct support staff and coordination of individuals supported services.

Essential Functions Individual(s) Served Support

Coordinates nursing services with other departments, i.e., programming, dietary, Social Services, etc.

Ensure proper medication administration to include completion of monthly medication reviews and addressing any concerns.

Ensures follow up on recommendations and orders and consult forms are completed.

Completes appointment worksheets to ensure that individuals supported concerns are addressed at the appointment.

Co-signs nursing care plans and ensures that care plans are being followed and updated.

Oversee temporary care plans.

Coordinates individuals supported care needs to include ensuring all appointments are timely.

Serves as member of the individuals supported PCP team and prepares reports for meetings.

Provides nursing department oversight and guidance on nursing issues.

Ensures nurse’s station is kept neat and clean.

Coordinates pharmacy and medical director consultation.

Ensure staff are knowledgeable about health needs of individuals supported.

Oversees infection control program and immunization needs.

Along with Director of Program Services, oversees the management of the CNA’s.

Reviews and follows up on all incident reports in a timely manner.

Ensures the completion of the BMS-085.

Serves in role of facility administrator for coverage purposes, as assigned.

Serves as member of key teams including but not limited to the admission/discharge review team and the neglect and abuse investigation team.

Safety & Compliance

Practices high safety and sanitation standards. (aware of hazards, utilizes precautions, fills out staff I & A reports.) Cleans and sanitizes work area according to standards.

Ensures that departmental/area services are provided in compliance with the policies in place and the state/federal regulations.

Complies with and reports concerns with Policies and Procedures.

Maintains Quality Assurance for department. Summarizes the information and reports to the Chief ICF Administrator.

Ensures appropriate reports and documentation are completed including nursing quarterlies.

Leadership

Provides vision and leadership to the ICF.

Coordinates with HR in interviewing, hiring, and oversight of departmental orientation for all departmental staff.

Establish effective supervisory relationships with staff to include timely completion of performance reviews, training, and performance management/discipline in accordance with 3Rivers policy and procedure, and union contract obligations.

Prepares for, attends, participates and shares responsibility for the Department Head meetings.

Defines duties and interprets policies to ensure compliance with standards.

Completes departmental schedule, processes time off requests and monitors staff use of time.

Orders and maintains an inventory of all necessary departmental supplies, food, and equipment within the departmental budget.

Participates in policy planning and the budget process.

Facilitate meetings and in-services, as needed.

Interacts with individuals supported to assist in the development of specific skills and enhance development with the PCP team approval and administrative approval.

Competently and consistently pursues positive results toward the Agency mission statement, motivating staff to pursue the same.

Works cooperatively with other supervisory staff and keeps Chief ICF Administrator informed of successes and challenges.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all levels of personnel and provide leadership when dealing with stressful situations.

Ability to lift 35 lbs. and assist with lifting of individuals served.

Ability to remain calm and function well in stressful and emergency situations.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to sit for long periods of time at a VDT monitor and do repetitive tasks such as typing.

Works indoors in well-lit and ventilated rooms. Possibility of cuts or minor burns from equipment. May be exposed to communicable diseases. Possibility of injury due to moving or interacting with individuals supported.

Qualifications

Graduate of a State approved school of nursing

Current and valid registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine

Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including supervisory experience.

Strong understanding of service delivery systems for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Experience with regulatory oversight, compliance (including MaineCare services , and quality improvement.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Demonstrated ability to manage complex systems, lead through change, and promote a positive organizational culture.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and comfort with data systems and electronic documentation platforms.

Valid and insurable Maine driver’s license required.

Ability to pass required background checks, to include: Adult/Child Protective Services; criminal history; OIG Exclusion list; National Sex Offender Registry; Bureau of Motor Vehicles record; and Maine CNA Registry.

Hourly Wage Range $38.80-$48.50
