We are looking for a Software Architect to help design and define the next generation of high-performance ECUs (HPCs and ZCUs). You will collaborate closely with hardware, system architecture, base software, integration, and validation teams to deliver robust, scalable software architectures across vehicle domains. The role combines strong technical execution with a mindset for continuous improvement and innovation.
Location: Auburn Hills, the U.S. Contract type: 1099 Contractor
Responsibilities
Define and maintain software architecture and requirements for High-Performance Computers (HPCs) and Zone Control Units (ZCUs), including middleware, low-level drivers, libraries, and communication protocols.
Define strategic software processes for HPC/ZCU: start-up, failure detection, VM interaction, hypervisor configuration, recovery modes, and power/thermal management.
Define and track system KPIs and resource allocation at each software release.
Collaborate with hardware architects on base software requirements and integration.
Integrate application software into ECU platforms in collaboration with domain teams.
Ensure consistency between system, hardware, and software architectures.
Contribute to software safety, performance, and security in alignment with ASPICE and ISO 26262 standards.
Drive best practices in requirement management, traceability, and design documentation.
Lead technical reviews and support planning, risk management, and prioritization activities.
Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science.
Experience: Minimum 5 years in software architecture roles within embedded or automotive systems.
Required Skills
Deep knowledge of Classic and Adaptive AUTOSAR, Linux, QNX, and Android platforms.
Strong experience with SoC architecture, POSIX operating systems, and embedded hypervisors.
Hands-on experience with communication protocols and device drivers (PWM, DIO, SPI, CAN-FD, UART, LVDS, GPIO).
Knowledge of infotainment and instrument cluster domains (mandatory).
Familiarity with automotive communication standards (LIN, CAN, Ethernet) and service-oriented architectures.
Proficiency with UML modeling tools (Rhapsody mandatory; PREEvision a plus).
Experience using IBM Rational DOORS Next Generation (DNG) for requirement management.
Understanding of ASPICE and ISO 26262 software development processes.
