Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems seeks a Senior Principal Software Engineer – Embedded Development. This position may be located in San Diego, CA; El Segundo, CA; Palmdale, CA; or Oklahoma City, OK.

Candidates will work on software supporting various systems through all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, integration, and test. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of the full development life‑cycle, technical, schedule, and cost constraints, and strong leadership in coordinating with multiple teams.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated software tests for qualification of embedded software products.

Work in a lab environment on Agile projects.

Apply knowledge of all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle.

Analyze requirements allocated to computer software configuration items (CSCI).

Develop clear, concise technical documentation.

Collaborate with software developers and other engineers to diagnose and identify root causes of problems during software installation, integration, acceptance testing, and operational events.

Submit detailed problem reports for errors found.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of related engineering experience; or a Master’s degree with 6 years of experience; or a PhD with 4 years of experience.

Experience with safety‑critical embedded real‑time software.

Experience with UAV route planning, routing algorithms, or other geometrically based algorithms.

Experience developing software and scripts in C/C++ and Python.

Experience with software development methodologies and frameworks such as waterfall and/or Agile throughout the SDLC.

Experience with software change control, change management, and CI/CD tools such as Atlassian, GitHub, GitLab, and/or Jenkins.

Experience with software architecture, design, implementation, integration, debugging, and testing of safety‑critical embedded real‑time software written in C/C++ on real‑time operating systems such as VxWorks, Integrity, and/or Real Time Embedded Linux.

Familiarity with static code analysis tools such as Coverity, SonarQube, and Fortify.

Familiarity with using MATLAB.

Active DoD Top Secret clearance.

Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Program Access (SAP/PAR) before employment and to upgrade SAP/PAR during the role.

Preferred Qualifications

Current Special Program Access.

Previous experience with existing system.

Demonstrated leadership, excellent teamwork, and strong oral and written communication skills.

Recent experience with multi‑threaded programming in C/C++ for real‑time systems.

Experience with SOAP and Java services.

Recent experience with scripting languages such as Python, MATLAB, JavaScript, and/or Bash.

Primary Level Salary Range:

$116,300.00 – $213,400.00.

The salary range is a general guideline. Northrop Grumman considers factors such as scope and responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives, along with health insurance, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, paid holidays, and paid time off.
