Machine Learning Engineering Lead - AI COE
Join Securian Financial’s AI Center of Excellence as a Principal Machine Learning Engineer and lead the design and development of cutting‑edge AI solutions that transform business operations across multiple groups.
Overview Work alongside a team of experts to shape the future of AI at Securian Financial, solving complex challenges and driving the company’s AI strategy forward.
Primary Responsibilities
Drive AI vision, strategy, and architecture.
Lead ML engineers and collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and data engineers to operationalize ML models and manage the lifecycle of AI algorithms.
Architect, build, maintain, and improve a suite of AI applications and underlying systems to maximize business value.
Automate ML pipelines, monitor performance and costs, and optimize models using techniques such as LoRA/QLoRA.
Establish reusable frameworks to streamline model building, deployment, and monitoring with comprehensive logging, tracing, and alerting.
Ensure safe and rigorous validation testing of user‑generated models and implement a clear peer review process for applications.
Identify business process optimization opportunities, prototype solutions, and demonstrate value.
Mentor team members, promote software engineering best practices, and evangelize emerging technologies.
Qualifications
Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) or equivalent industry experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related fields.
Minimum of 10 years of full‑time experience in relevant ML roles and 10 years of software development experience with Python and SQL.
4+ years of building production pipelines for NLP and deep learning models in a cloud environment.
Expert experience building advanced workflows such as retrieval‑augmented generation, model chaining, dynamic prompting, and PEFT/SFT using LangChain and similar tools.
Experience with relational SQL, NoSQL, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and a Linux environment.
In‑depth understanding of ML algorithms, deep learning architectures, NLP, computer vision, or other AI disciplines.
Cloud computing platform expertise (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and distributed computing technologies.
Proven track record of designing, developing, and deploying AI solutions in real‑world settings and collaborating with leadership to drive adoption.
Strong leadership, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Ability to convey sophisticated concepts to technical and non‑technical audiences.
Pay The estimated base pay range for this role is
$105,000.00 – $196,000.00 . Pay may vary based on job‑related factors and individual experience, skills, and knowledge.
