Senior Engineer – Senior Plan Check Engineer
County of Riverside's Building and Safety Department is seeking a Senior Plan Check Engineer to support the Plan Check Division in Downtown Riverside, CA.
Responsibilities
Perform a full range of plan review duties: review engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and ordinances.
Interpret codes and regulations, check plans for accuracy of design and completeness.
Check complex plans and calculations for structural elements to ensure adequacy for earthquake, wind, and material stress requirements.
Act as a lead on assigned projects, mentoring less experienced engineers or technical staff.
Assist in development of departmental policies and procedures and provide leadership in code interpretation.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture or related field.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of building plan check or civil engineering experience comparable to Associate Plans Examiner.
Knowledge:
Plan check procedures, building construction principles, state and local codes, permit tracking, software proficiency, engineering fundamentals, mathematics and physics applied to engineering, and construction material properties.
Skills:
Ability to perform detailed building reviews, prepare clear reports, work cooperatively with developers and contractors, use automated plan checks, and mentor subordinate personnel.
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid California Driver’s License (if required), California structural or civil engineering registration, current Plans Examiner certification from ICC, and desired DSA Certified Access Specialist (CASp).
