Principal Power Processing Unit Responsible Engineer Join Blue Origin as a principal engineer in the In‑Space Systems business unit. Blue Origin is developing reusable, safe, low‑cost space vehicles and systems. The role reports to the Blue Ring spacecraft Power Systems integrated product lead and is accountable for driving future In‑Space Systems products and services by developing spacecraft hardware and architectures to meet business goals.

Responsibilities

Lead hardware development for spacecraft Electrical Power Systems with a primary focus on Power Processing Unit (PPU) development.

Implement PPU architectures that support current and future Blue Origin spacecraft.

Translate high‑level subsystem requirements into optimal power‑conversion solutions for electric propulsion.

Conduct detailed converter analysis for steady‑state and transient conditions, control and stability analysis, voltage‑drop analysis, stress analysis, in‑rush analysis, EMI filtering, transformer design, and analog design.

Design and implement protection for overcurrent and overvoltage within converters and select Si, GaN, and SiC devices.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (thermal, mechanical, radiation) to deliver compliant solutions that meet vehicle needs.

Apply technical expertise, leadership, and quality focus to support mission‑critical operations.

Required Qualifications

Minimum B.S. in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related discipline.

15 + years of power converter design, architecture, and development experience.

Experience designing converters for space environments from LEO to deep space.

Experience with power‑system trades and architecture selection.

Expertise in analog, transformers, EMI filters, and protection (overcurrent, overvoltage, thermal).

Expertise in parallel analysis, in‑rush analysis, stress analysis, stability analysis.

Record of working effectively with cohesive teams and driving rapid decision‑making.

Experience in mission‑ and safety‑critical environments.

Experience with Design for Manufacturing & Cost.

Ability to travel and/or accept temporary duty as required.

Preferred Qualifications

Proven experience with electric propulsion systems.

Proven experience with high‑power processing units.

Compensation CA applicants: $177,857.00–$248,999.10; CO applicants: $168,414.00–$235,778.55; WA applicants: $177,857.00–$248,999.10.
