The opportunity The Data Engineering (DENG) co-op at Harvard Business Publishing (HBP) supports our DENG team in designing, building, and maintaining data infrastructure and systems that enable efficient processing and analysis of large and complex datasets for use by HBP business stakeholders, data analysts, and for use in our end user-facing products. The co-op will develop experience in data modeling, data warehousing, and ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) processes. As a member of the DENG team within HBP's Data & AI Unit, the DE is situated in a central service role with high cross-functional engagement and impacts across all divisions of HBP. As HBP pursues a strategy of enhancing its value to organizational leaders and business learners through new forms of engagement and interactive product experiences, the DENG team plays a critical role in interfacing with product engineers, data scientists, and AI developers at HBP to enable their work.
What you'll do:
Identify, prioritize, and execute tasks in the data engineering life cycle
Communicate with business and product development stakeholders to understand and support their data use cases
Develop and maintain secure, scalable, reliable data pipelines
Collaborate with business users, software engineering, and cross-functional product development teams in solution design, development, and troubleshooting
Support the implementation and maintenance of data APIs that interface between our data warehouse and our products
Collaborate with data scientists and ML scientists at HBP to analyze and derive insight from data, and to operationalize those insights in internal and product operations
What you'll bring:
Experience with one or more of the following data engineering competencies
Data modeling and warehousing (e.g., in
Snowflake
or similar cloud platforms)
ETL pipelining (e.g., with
dbt )
Data governance
ML operations and deployment
Experience with
SQL
and relational databases
Familiarity with developing applications on
AWS cloud
and knowledge of various
AWS services
Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently, strong work ethic, with enthusiasm and ability to thrive in a team environment
This is a 6-month Spring Co-op opportunity. Compensation for this role ranges from $30.00 to $40.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
The above range is the expected hourly rate for this position.
