Job Summary We are seeking a licensed
Inspection & Service Technician
to perform inspections, testing, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance on low-voltage fire alarm, intrusion alarm, and related life-safety systems. This field-based role requires in-depth knowledge of NFPA codes, strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
Perform annual, semi-annual, and periodic inspections of fire alarm and intrusion alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72 and local AHJ requirements
Conduct service, testing, programming, and repair of fire alarm, intrusion alarm, and intercom systems
Test and verify operation of all devices including smoke/heat detectors, pull stations, notification appliances, control panels, backup batteries, and communication paths
Troubleshoot and diagnose system faults, loose connections, or malfunctioning equipment
Program fire alarm and intrusion panels/keypads as needed
Complete detailed inspection reports, deficiency quotes, and service documentation in accordance with NFPA and company standards
Demonstrate system operation to customers and explain causes/consequences of false alarms or trouble conditions
Run and terminate cables when required for repairs or small additions
Ensure all work complies with current NFPA 72, NEC, and local codes
Maintain accurate service records and complete work orders in a timely manner
Keep company vehicles, tools, test equipment, and materials organized, clean, and in good working order
Knowledge, Skill & Other Requirements
Minimum 2–3 years of proven experience inspecting, testing, and servicing fire alarm and intrusion alarm systems
Experience with EST and Notifier systems.
Knowledge of sprinkler inspections
Strong working knowledge of NFPA 72, NFPA 70 (NEC), and local fire codes
Solid understanding of basic electricity theory (Ohm’s law, series/parallel circuits, voltage drop, etc.)
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, and manufacturer manuals
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Detail-oriented with a strong emphasis on safety, accuracy, and code compliance
Excellent customer communication skills and professional appearance
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (subject to verification)
Ability to pass criminal background check and drug screen
Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within the greater Modesto/Central Valley area
Preferred (but not required)
NICET II or higher in Fire Alarm Systems
California Fire/Life Safety Technician certification or equivalent state license
Experience with programing EST and Notifier systems.
Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Silent Knight, Fire-Lite, Honeywell, Notifier, DSC, etc.)
OSHA 10 or higher
Physical Requirements
Frequent ladder climbing, working from heights, crawling in tight spaces, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions
