Save Job

At Tandem PV we are a team of people who are passionate about building a more sustainable world by bringing more cost‑effective solar panels onto the market. We’re scaling metal‑halide perovskite solar technology to create best‑in‑class mechanically stacked tandem modules. We have built efficient, durable cells, monolithic multi‑cell sub‑modules, and packaged modules with our scalable, low‑cost process. Our next focus is expanding our team and building a pilot manufacturing facility.

Product Engineer We are seeking an experienced Product Engineer to take new module products from concept through pilot and commercial production, working closely with R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality. The main focus will be to ensure our modules meet performance, cost, manufacturability, reliability, and certification goals—driving innovation while supporting high‑volume output, with a strong emphasis on integrating R&D initiatives into high‑volume industrial production. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in both R&D, pilot, and high‑volume manufacturing processes in solar energy.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and improvement of solar module products and the introduction of new materials and processes.

Define and update specifications for materials and processes and set up prototyping and field test programs.

Plan and execute material and product qualification, reliability and certification programs following industry standards (e.g., IEC 61215/61730, Thresher test (RETC), UL, TUV).

Ensure compliance with industry standards, maintain documentation, and support third‑party test labs during test and certification processes.

Manage and act as the key interface between suppliers, supply chain and procurement, R&D, process and manufacturing teams to support the transition of new materials and products from prototype to mass production and continuous improvement.

Analyze data regarding material and process performance using statistical tools and recommend design, material and process changes for performance, reliability or cost improvement.

Lead scale‑up processes from lab‑scale R&D to pilot and commercial production, addressing technical challenges and optimizing performance.

Develop and train production team personnel, including supervisors, technicians, and line workers.

Coordinate with quality assurance and engineering teams to troubleshoot product issues and implement corrective/preventive actions.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field and/or comparable work experience in solar energy, semiconductors or other relevant fields.

Proven track record of introducing new products, materials and processes in industrial production and R&D operations simultaneously.

Understanding of PV modules, solar cells, or thin‑film manufacturing technologies is desirable.

Experience in selecting, evaluating, and characterizing solar module components and materials, including frames, filler sheets, interconnect ribbons, and conductive silver pastes.

Able to develop and maintain module durability characterization, including but not limited to 85/85, High Pot, Accelerated Aging, Outdoor Testing, I‑V, and BOS reliability/durability.

Improve product quality through detailed and systematic problem identification and failure analysis.

Experience in process engineering, lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma is a plus.

Strong leadership, communication, and team‑building skills.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic, and highly collaborative environment.

Preferred Experience

Prior involvement in scaling up solar production from lab to mass production.

Knowledge of automated production systems and data‑driven manufacturing (e.g., MES, SPC tools).

Familiarity with global manufacturing standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or IEC certification.

About Tandem PV Tandem PV uses perovskite & silicon mechanically‑stacked tandems to upgrade silicon solar panels, sharply decreasing installed system costs, significantly increasing module manufacturing profit margins, and opening up vast new solar markets in the US and worldwide. TPV was co‑founded by Stanford PhDs Colin Bailie and Chris Eberspacher; it is advised by industry experts from Corning, First Solar, Vivint Solar, and Kateeva; and it has raised more than $50 M in Series A funding. We were recently recognized as the Best Pre‑Commercial Venture of 2025 by the Industry Growth Forum (IGF).

Tandem PV is a diverse, equal‑opportunity employer. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
