Business Intelligence & Prospect Strategies at Boston University The mission of Business Intelligence & Prospect Strategies is to uncover and provide data, information, knowledge, insight, and wisdom that will maximize impact for stakeholders and decision-makers within DAR, within Boston University, and beyond.
Business Intelligence & Prospect Strategies consists of three teams: Business Intelligence, Prospect Research, and Prospect Management.
Assistant Director Reporting to the Director of Prospect Management, the Assistant Director of Prospect Management leads the PM team priority of portfolio optimization/management. Using tools and inputs provided by Business Intelligence, Prospect Research, and other providers, the Assistant Director supports the PM team's efforts to prioritize prospects within individual fundraiser's portfolio, thereby playing a key role in setting and achieving BU Advancement's fundraising goals.
Responsibilities Pipeline Development
Assist in creating and maintaining gift officer portfolios with the most viable prospects via identification and assignment of new major gift prospects and prioritization of existing major gift prospects already in portfolio using best practices and operating procedures.
Collaborate with cross‑functional prospect portfolio review teams comprising Prospect Management, Prospect Research, Business Intelligence, and Gifts & Records staff to provide comprehensive, data‑driven support and strategic insights for individual gift officers.
Consult on and interpret prospect and portfolio reports that support Advancement metrics and goals in partnership with gift officers.
Portfolio Management
Monitor and analyze the portfolios of gift officers, ensuring they are aligned to expectations in terms of size and stage of cultivation.
Update database of record as necessary and monitor data integrity to report key metrics for individual fundraiser portfolios.
Staff and Project Management
Manage 1 Prospect Management Analyst, being responsible for all management, onboarding, goal setting, and direction of duties; collaborate with Director of Prospect Management on team.
Design and implement processes and tracking methods to manage multiple concurrent projects for organization within the team and transparency across the organization.
Participate in cross‑divisional initiatives to support major gift campaigns and strategic fundraising efforts.
Communicate and train gift officers on policy and process recommendations created by the PM team to foster collaboration and ensure alignment with industry best practices; support staff and provide guidance and coaching to align with policies as needed.
Solicit and incorporate feedback from stakeholders on projects and deliverables.
Requirements Required Skills
Bachelor's degree.
Five to eight years of prospect/portfolio management experience, preferably in a university setting.
Comprehensive understanding of philanthropy, prospect development, and prospect management.
Experience partnering with gift officers on prospect and/or portfolio strategy.
Excellent ability to analyze, interpret, and synthesize various datapoints for making assignment and prioritization decisions with fundraiser partners.
Exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Personal belief in mission, goals and objectives of private higher education.
Superb judgment and sensibility to adjudicate wisely among competing priorities.
Strong strategic and project management skills, including demonstrated ability to relate well to, and understand the needs and interests of a diverse group of fundraising professionals in a fast‑moving environment.
Solid understanding and ability to collaborate and develop partnerships across the University.
Expectation to take initiative, be proactive, and be self‑motivated.
Extreme organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to keep donor and donor prospect information confidential.
High proficiency in relevant software, eCRM's, operations and procedures, including University wide systems and applications.
