The Lumber Manufactory (TLM) is building the sustainable future of the lumber industry with next‑generation sawmill technology. Backed by leading investors, including Cantos, Slow Ventures, Susa Ventures, Banter, Humba Ventures, and Ravelin Capital.
We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to bring technical innovation to an industry spanning centuries. You will design complex mechanical systems for refining lumber, work closely with designers and technicians, and oversee installation and testing in production.
Responsibilities
Design sawmilling equipment and subsystems.
Document design development and analysis and lead cross‑functional brainstorming reviews.
Author equipment install and test procedures.
Manage part procurement.
Engage and manage external vendors.
Champion root cause and corrective action investigations as needed.
Provide regular updates to cross‑functional partners.
Support and attend onsite installation and testing activities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
10+ years experience in mechanical or manufacturing engineering. Sawmill experience is a bonus.
Strong experience using 3D creation software. Inventor is a bonus.
Strong experience using GD&T on 2D drawings.
Experience with finite element analysis.
Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), indirect is OK.
Excellent communication skills.
Must be able to work independently.
Demonstrated ability to create and drive new processes.
Must be able to work in a production environment, at heights, with PPE.
Must be willing to travel 33% to 50% of the time to a remote sawmill environment.
Must be willing to remain accessible outside standard working hours to accommodate cross‑geography, remote team.
Position Details Job Type: Full Time
Start of salary range: $100,000
Work Location: Regional preference for Greater Memphis area. This role is required to be onsite at Mississippi and other regional mills.
