Required Education

MD/DO Degree or Equivalent

Eligible for a Kentucky Medical License

Completed an accredited Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship

Board eligible/Board Certified in both Critical Care and Pulmonary Medicine

Required Related Experience

Fellowship in lung transplantation, 3‑5 years of experience in the care of lung transplant patients, and eligible for primary physician certification with the OPTN

Board certification in Internal Medicine

Board certification in Pulmonary Disease and/or Critical Care Medicine, or Sleep Medicine

Fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and/or Critical Care Medicine, or Sleep Medicine

Eligible for medical licensure in Kentucky

Job Summary The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine seeks a Transplant Pulmonologist to serve as the Medical Director of its expanding lung transplant program. The role involves leadership of program growth, care of inpatients, evaluation of transplant candidates (both inpatient and outpatient), and oversight of post‑transplant outpatient care. Candidates are also encouraged to teach medical students, residents, and fellows, and to participate in research on advanced lung diseases and transplantation. The program has performed over 500 life‑saving lung transplants and is located in a nationally ranked academic medical center.

Responsibilities

Lead and expand the lung transplant program.

Provide inpatient and outpatient care for lung transplant patients.

Evaluate patients for transplant listing and conduct post‑transplant follow‑up.

Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows.

Engage in patient‑oriented research in advanced lung diseases and transplantation.

Participate in administrative committees and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

MD/DO or equivalent, with Kentucky medical license eligibility.

Accredited Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship completion.

Board certification/eligibility in both Critical Care and Pulmonary Medicine.

3‑5 years of lung transplant experience and OPTN primary physician certification eligibility.

Strong clinical, leadership, and academic skills.
