Purpose Of Position The primary purpose of the Licensed Practice Nurse is to provide direct patient care, offer patient and family teaching, and collaborate within the interdisciplinary health care team to maintain standards of nursing care under the direction of the registered nurse and within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Current licensure to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Ohio
IV certified
Current BLS certification
Proficiency in basic nursing services, knowledge, and skills
Knowledge of evidence‑based practice
Responsibilities
Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or the situation
Identify and report changes in patients’ status to the Registered Nurse for evaluation
Document nursing activities accurately and in a timely manner
Implement the identified plan, coordinate care delivery, and employ strategies to promote health and a safe environment under the direction of the Registered Nurse
Administer treatments and other direct care
Prepare and administer medications as prescribed
Administer peripheral IV medications as prescribed within the scope of licensure under the supervision of the Registered Nurse
Observe and evaluate residents’ responses to medications
Identify and promptly communicate adverse drug reactions to the Registered Nurse
Collect specimens as ordered
Interact with and contribute to the professional development of peers and colleagues
Collaborate with patient, family, and others in the conduct of nursing practice
Integrate ethical provisions in all areas of practice
Working Conditions
Working hours vary according to departmental needs
Works under the direct supervision of an RN
Lunch and break periods are assigned by the Charge RN
Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range
May require exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment, such as risk of falls, strains, etc.
Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day
