We are in an exciting phase of launch and growth and are seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial Executive Director to help us manage programs, expand our reach, and measure impact.
Position Summary The Executive Director will serve as the foundation’s first key leader, working closely with the founding family and board to shape and implement the foundation’s strategy. This role is ideal for a highly motivated early-career professional who brings creativity, agility, and a passion for social impact. You will manage grantmaking and programming, build partnerships, and lead day-to-day operations.
Please Note: The ideal candidate will live in the Charleston area and work within a hybrid environment (partial virtual - partial presence at downtown offices) with possible statewide travel required when/where needed for program execution. If you believe you are a right fit for this position, but will require to reside in another part of the State, please explain your cover letter how often you are going to be able to travel to Charleston (weekly at minimum) for face-to-face time with our Board Chair.
Key Responsibilities Strategy & Vision
Collaborate with the board and family leadership to refine and implement the foundation’s mission and programmatic strategy.
Identify new areas of impact and opportunities for innovation.
Program & Grantmaking
Manage the philanthropic giving process; conduct due diligence on potential partners.
Monitor grantee progress and impact, and support learning and evaluation.
Build relationships with nonprofit leaders, funders, and thought partners.
Operations & Governance
Oversee operational systems, including budget tracking and reporting.
Coordinate board meetings, prepare materials, and ensure clear communication.
Outreach & Communication
Represent the foundation externally, building a network of aligned partners and peers.
Develop and manage internal and external communications.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree Required.
Excitement/passion for the vision and mission of the Fund.
Experience within the Educational Sector preferred.
3–5 years of relevant experience in philanthropy, nonprofit management, social entrepreneurship, or a related field.
Entrepreneurial mindset – able to work independently and take initiative in a dynamic, evolving environment.
Results Oriented - aligned to achieving and measuring results.
Strong program management and organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal, writing, and communication abilities.
Passion for social impact and alignment with the foundation’s mission and values.
Comfort with ambiguity and a desire to grow and learn alongside the role.
Preferred (but not required)
Experience in a family foundation, startup nonprofit, or impact-focused organization.
Familiarity with grantmaking processes and philanthropic best practices.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: This opportunity is for a full-time, salaried or contractor position. Yearly compensation estimated to be between $65,000 - $100,000, commensurate with experience.
