Job Overview UC San Diego Health is a Magnet‑designated organization, a prestigious recognition available to only 10% of all U.S. hospitals. Magnet status is the “gold standard” for nursing excellence and is based on five key areas: transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge, innovation and improvements, and empirical outcomes. UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status since 2011.

The Perinatal Float Pool RN provides family‑centered care across multiple perinatal units, supporting Hillcrest LDRP, Jacobs Medical Center (JMC) Labor & Delivery, and JMC Postpartum. Float nurses receive their unit assignment prior to each shift and provide coverage based on shift‑to‑shift census needs, acuity, and staffing demands. Responsibilities may include high‑risk L&D, triage, antepartum care, couplet care, OR, and PACU depending on the assigned unit.

Autonomous nursing care means a nurse can assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
