Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) – Post Acute Services – Paducah, KY ContinueCARE Hospital is looking for a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) who will provide the day‑to‑day operations of the clinical services at our 37‑bed Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) located on the fifth floor of Baptist Health Paducah.

Under the direct supervision of the CEO, the CNO is responsible for managing and supervising clinical staff, ensuring appropriate competency, numbers, and staffing levels to meet patients’ immediate and complex needs. The CNO promotes the overall quality of nursing care while operating under the ANA Standards of Practice, and works with professional staff to plan, coordinate, manage, and evaluate clinical programs of the LTACH, fostering a team approach to patient care.

As a key member of our leadership team, the CNO will shape the future of our organization by overseeing nursing operations, driving quality initiatives, and fostering a positive work environment. Together with the CEO, they set clear, consistent goals and expectations, hold themselves and others accountable for decisions and actions, demand high performance, maintain commitments, and deliver results, creating an ownership culture.

Major Responsibilities

Conveys CHC/hospital values and acceptable behavior to all stakeholders, encouraging teamwork, employee engagement, collaboration, accountability, and quality results.

Defines and implements operational standards, policies, and procedures for nursing care, evaluates current processes, conducts needs analysis, prioritizes changes, and establishes a single organized nursing service with an administrative structure.

Demonstrates a commitment to excellent customer service and strives to meet or exceed patient expectations.

Promotes quality by integrating nationally recognized professional standards into policies and procedures, identifies alternate processes to improve safety and quality, and supports the organization’s quality assessment and performance improvement program.

Oversees preparation and management of nursing budgets, ensures productivity measures support revenue cycle needs, meets budgetary metrics, and steward all financial resources.

Determines staffing requirements, ensuring adequate numbers of competent and credentialed staff (including contract labor) and directs performance management systems.

Collaborates with the Medical Staff to resolve issues affecting nursing and patient care, fostering open communication and harmonious relationships.

Demonstrates effective interpersonal relations, builds rapport and trust, seeks stakeholder input, anticipates concerns, and contributes to a culture of communication.

Engages with community leaders to assess healthcare needs, build a positive hospital image, and market services, showing political acumen and diplomacy.

Supports talent development by assessing needs, providing feedback, coaching, and development opportunities; addresses performance problems promptly.

Sets clear goals, holds self and others accountable, demands high performance, and creates an ownership culture.

Champions change, helps staff understand benefits, links change to work processes, involves stakeholders, and communicates throughout the change process.

Maintains all nursing‑related hospital accreditations, licensures, and designations in good standing and ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited university program.

Master’s Degree in a health‑care related field or active enrollment toward a Master’s Degree.

Valid Registered Nurse license in the state of the hospital’s location.

At least three years of direct patient care experience in an LTACH or acute care setting (LTACH experience highly desirable; critical care experience preferred).

Minimum of two years of nursing management experience (e.g., nursing manager, nursing director, or CNO). Experience equitably considered.

CNO must reside within a 30‑mile radius of the hospital.
