Your Team & Role As a
Senior Software Engineer
on the Retirement Strategies Technology team, you will partner with product owners, tech leads, designers, engineers and delivery professionals to modernize our platforms. You will bring excellent problem‑solving, communication and teamwork skills, along with agile ways of working, strong business insight, an inclusive leadership attitude and a continuous learning focus to all that you do.
We are hiring multiple Senior Software Engineers across several focus areas including Front‑End Development, Back‑End Development, Full Stack Engineering, Data Engineering, and Data/Cloud/API Engineering. These roles are based at our
Newark, NJ
corporate headquarters with a
hybrid work arrangement
requiring a minimum of three days per week onsite.
Typical Day Responsibilities
Build applications ensuring the code follows latest coding practices and industry standards, using modern design patterns and architectural principles.
Develop high quality, well‑documented and efficient code adhering to all applicable Prudential standards.
Collaborate with product owners to understand needs and define feature stories, with tech leads in defining technical design, and with other team members to understand the system end‑to‑end and deliver robust solutions that bring business impact.
Write unit, integration tests and functional automation, and research problems discovered by quality assurance or product support, developing solutions to address the problems.
Apply an understanding of relevant and emerging technologies, identify opportunities to provide input to the team and coach others, and embed learning and innovation in the day‑to‑day.
Work on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in‑depth evaluation of various factors.
Use programming languages including but not limited to Python, Java, JavaScript, React, Spring Boot, Node.js frameworks.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Typically, 4+ years of experience in software engineering.
Demonstrated emerging leadership capabilities, including initiating and driving projects with moderate guidance and support.
Experience with Agile development methodologies and Test‑Driven Development (TDD).
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively represent the team and engage with cross‑functional stakeholders.
Ability to learn new skills and knowledge on an ongoing basis through self‑initiative and tackling challenges.
Experience with AWS services and DevOps practices.
Solid understanding of software security principles and secure coding practices.
Technical Focus Areas Front‑End Development
UI/UX design principles, CIAM experience.
JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, React, Node, Angular.
REST API development and DevOps.
Experience with both React and Angular; transitioning from Angular to React is a plus.
Databases: DynamoDB, DocumentDB, DB2, Oracle, Postgres, Redshift.
Back‑End Development
API management and security.
Java, JavaScript, Python, Node, Spring Boot, Spring Batch.
REST API development and DevOps.
Databases: DynamoDB, DocumentDB, DB2, Oracle, Postgres, Redshift.
Full Stack Engineering
Strong breadth across both front‑end and back‑end technologies.

Experience with both React and Angular; transitioning from Angular to React is a plus.
Databases: DynamoDB, DocumentDB, DB2, Oracle, Postgres, Redshift.
Data Engineering
Databases: DynamoDB, DocumentDB, DB2, Oracle, Postgres, Redshift.
Data modeling and visualization using Power BI.
Experience with Purview and Fabric.
Data / Cloud / API Engineering
Back‑end dev expertise/experience; API management and security.
Java, JavaScript, Python, Node, Spring Boot, Spring Batch.
REST API development and DevOps expertise/experience.
DynamoDB, DocumentDB, DB2, Oracle, Postgres, Redshift.
Cloud technologies like Glue, Step Functions, EventBridge, Lambdas, SNS, etc.
ETL using Python, Spring Boot and AWS Glue.
Use developer productivity AI tools such as Claude.
Preferred Qualifications
AWS Development.
Architecture Patterns.
Design Thinking.
Financial/Insurance industry knowledge is a plus, not a must.
Benefits Salary range: $107,700.00 – $160,500.00. Specific pricing may vary within the above range based on factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
Market competitive base salaries, with a yearly bonus potential at every level.
