UHT Process/Production Manager
Battle Creek, MI – Fully onsite w/half-day Fridays Job Summary:
The UHT Process Engineer/Production Manager is a critical role blending technical expertise with production leadership. This position is responsible for optimizing the Ultra-High Temperature (UHT) process, overseeing daily operations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within the UHT department. This individual will act as the technical expert for UHT processing, ensuring the highest standards of efficiency, quality, and safety. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
UHT Process Optimization:
Analyze UHT process parameters (temperature, flow rates, pressure) to identify and implement improvements in efficiency, product quality, and yield. Develop and execute process validation protocols to ensure product sterility and compliance with regulatory standards. Troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective actions. Lead initiatives to reduce energy consumption and minimize waste.
Production Management:
Oversee daily production activities within the UHT department, ensuring production schedules are met and resources are utilized effectively. Supervise and mentor a team of UHT operators and technicians, providing technical guidance and training. Monitor equipment performance and collaborate with maintenance to optimize uptime and prevent unplanned downtime. Implement lean manufacturing principles to streamline operations and improve overall efficiency.
Equipment and Technology:
Serve as the subject matter expert for UHT processing equipment, including aseptic fillers, homogenizers, and heat exchangers. Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment to enhance production capabilities and product quality. Oversee the installation and commissioning of new UHT equipment.
Requirements:
5 years of experience in a dairy processing environment, with significant hands-on experience in UHT processing. In-depth knowledge of UHT processing principles, equipment, and technology. Strong understanding of food safety and quality management systems (e.g., HACCP, SQF). Experience with PLC controls and automation systems is a plus. Proficient in data analysis and statistical process control (SPC). Physical Demands:
Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work in a noisy and warm environment.
