Position Overview Axelera AI seeks a highly skilled and experienced
Senior PCB Layout Engineer
to design and develop printed circuit boards that power our state‑of‑the‑art AI systems. The role requires translating schematic diagrams into PCB layouts, managing eCAD component libraries, and collaborating with Electronic Manufacturing Service (EMS) partners for production.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and update the CAD components library, ensuring up‑to‑date footprints and 3D models.
Collaborate with Mechanical and Thermal designers to introduce new components supporting evolving product requirements.
Synchronize data across eCAD platforms, maintain consistent project databases, and enable eCAD‑MCAD interoperability with NX, PTC Creo, and SolidWorks.
Translate schematic diagrams into PCB layouts, focusing on Signal Integrity, Power Integrity and EMC/EMI compliance.
Optimize board utilization and stack‑up strategy, balancing electrical, mechanical and thermal constraints.
Design multi‑layer, high‑density PCBs using Altium Designer, Xpedition, OrCAD or KiCad.
Plan high‑speed routes for LPDDR4+ and PCIe 3.0+ interfaces.
Develop low‑voltage, high‑current PDN for GPUs and high‑end processors.
Use simulation tools such as HyperLynx or Keysight ADS for SI/PI verification.
Collaborate with EMS to prepare designs for manufacturing, meet DFM/DFT guidelines and resolve production issues.
Coordinate functional, electrical and mechanical validation (VNA, TDR, thermal cycling, mechanical stress tests).
Create and maintain complete design documentation (schematics, layout files, BOM, stack‑ups, mechanical drawings).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master’s preferred.
5–10 years of PCB layout experience (multilayer, HDI).
Proficiency with Altium, Xpedition, OrCAD or KiCad.
Expertise in SI/PI/EMI‑compliant layout, controlled impedance and advanced via structures.
Strong understanding of PCB manufacturing, DFM/DFT and material selection.
Hands‑on experience with LPDDR4+, PCIe 3.0+ interfaces and PDN design.
Ability to interpret SI/PI simulations (HyperLynx, ADS) and co‑design with simulation engineers.
Experience with eCAD‑MCAD workflows (NX, Creo, SolidWorks).
Knowledge of VNA, TDR, scopes, logic analyzers and relevant PCB standards.
Familiarity with thermal cycling, mechanical stress and reliability testing.
Strong problem‑solving, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
Fluent English; Chinese a plus.
Collaborative team player and capable of autonomous research and planning.
Location
Work from one of our Axelera AI offices in Italy (Milan or Florence).
Work fully remotely from Italy.
Relocate with us to Italy (Florence or Milan).
