Motional’s Las Vegas office is located less than 10 miles from the Las Vegas strip at 730 E Pilot Road and is home to one of the largest fleets of self-driving vehicles. This role is based in our Las Vegas office and requires in‑office days each week.
Mission Summary This job will involve working very closely with senior researchers to add important information to map data, which is required for various autonomous vehicle functionality to work in real time. In this role, the candidate will provide global support to the Map Operations team by producing basemaps and annotated maps, and will assist in map operations activities that include data QA/QC, mission planning, map verification and validation, release/data management and support for other mapping related workflows such as vendor management.
What you’ll be doing
Annotate/digitize high‑definition maps of roads that are used for autonomous driving, using in‑house mapping software, and play an active role in the expansion and maintenance of high‑definition maps.
Assist in and help coordinate the preparation of large mapping projects for the global mapping team to ensure all artifacts are built and all requirements are satisfied.
Investigate and fix map‑related issues, conduct testing and update maps upon receiving feedback from the vehicle operations team or reviewing logs from vehicle runs.
Collaborate with 3rd party vendors and assist if any troubleshooting or communication is required.
Conduct various validation tests to ensure quality control, including a peer‑reviewing process with fellow mapping specialists, and conduct in‑house vehicle simulations.
Actively participate in the continuous improvement and documentation of map production, QA and maintenance processes and help to ensure that all mapping best practices are well‑documented, and consistently applied by the global team.
Work closely with software developers and researchers to investigate map data issues, report and replicate software bugs, conduct testing and provide useful feedback to improve the mapping tools, software and basemap process.
Support global mapping efforts to ensure that the annotated maps are ultimately well‑validated, road‑worthy and accurate while making rides safe, comfortable and error‑free.
Responsible for the management and distribution of maps available for stakeholder use.
Ensure that all work completed by the team aligns with company goals and values.
Qualifications
Background in working with mapping software, GIS, AutoCAD or other spatial design (photoshop or other video/image editing software experience will be considered).
Bachelor’s Degree in geography, science, engineering preferred; 1 to 3 years of working experience preferred.
Highly attentive to quality and detail; experience with QA/QC process and creating Standard Operating Procedures for complex processes.
Great attitude, independent, driven, resourceful, willing to learn and take pride and ownership in one’s work.
Able to work well in a global team environment with a knack for problem‑solving.
Exemplary organizational and time‑management skills.
Familiarity with road traffic rules and regulations.
Experience working with lidar data will be advantageous.
Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams to come up with solutions to complex issues.
Salary Range $75,000 — $98,213 USD
