Bessemer Trust
A Senior Tax Manager (STM) is an integral part of the Bessemer Trust multi‑disciplinary client service team and is a leader in terms of individual contribution and in terms of managing others. The STM’s role is primarily focused on providing planning and compliance services. They will be managing a list of tax clients consisting of high‑net‑worth individuals and related family flow‑through entities and providing tax consulting services for some Bessemer clients who are not tax clients.
Primary Responsibilities
Manage and review the preparation of highly complex 1040s, gift tax returns, and family investment partnership returns, and prepare select complex filings as needed.
Manage relationships with tax clients and be the primary and main point of contact for a portion of their client list.
Oversee examinations and negotiations with the IRS, state and local tax authorities.
Engage in tax research.
Analyze, summarize and provide feedback on proprietary tax strategies.
Review prior year tax returns, tax‑related balance sheet data, qualified retirement plans, and identify relevant planning strategies to present a personalized report to Bessemer’s non‑tax clients and prospects.
Present proprietary analysis for clients and prospects in such areas as charitable giving, Roth conversions, social security planning, and estate and gift planning.
Competencies Required
Approximately 7+ years of prior work experience with high‑net‑worth individuals and multigenerational families in public accounting, financial planning, law and/or trust administration.
General knowledge of, and extensive experience with, the calculation and management of income tax compliance and planning as it relates to complex personal income, gift, and flow‑through entities.
Ability to monitor, prioritize and coordinate workflow of the entire tax service team.
Detail oriented, good mathematical skills, and excellent problem‑solving skills.
Good computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
Familiarity with tax software programs and BNA Tax Planner.
Personal Characteristics
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with a wide range of people.
Highly motivated self‑starter.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities against strict deadlines.
Flexibility to work the hours needed to meet seasonal deadlines.
Capable of big picture, future thinking that is needed for leadership in driving business vision and strategy.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and CPA or EA required.
MBA, MST, CFP, JD or PFS beneficial.
The base salary range for this position is $135,000 - $165,000. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skills, experience, and qualification for the role. In addition, this position may be eligible for a discretionary incentive based on individual and company performance. Eligible employees may participate in a 401(k) program with a company profit‑sharing contribution, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability coverage and paid holidays, vacation, and sick days.
