Our Power Group provides engineering for electrical generation plants, as well as utility substation and Transmission and Distribution projects. About the Role We are looking for an experienced and energetic Senior Electrical Engineer designing unique utility electrical substations and power generation projects, including combined heat and power, renewables, grid storage, and large district energy thermal generation systems. Responsibilities Lead teams of electrical engineers and designers providing technical direction for complex utility substation and power generation projects. Manage technical direction and workload of electrical engineers and designers located in multiple locations across the US by reviewing project technical requirements, holding weekly project meetings, and evaluating workloads. Respond to Requests for Proposals from clients and other company groups and offices. Take lead responsibility for developing scope of work, labor effort, and cost for client provided RFPs. Perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance tasks for large projects and assist project leads with unique situations and demands. Create, review, oversee and professionally seal as required for electrical designs during different phases of projects including schematic design, design development, and construction documents in accordance with the Electrical Department’s procedures and standards and specific client standards, where applicable. Manage utilization of Revit, AutoCAD, AutoCAD‑3D, and Substation Design Suite to model electrical system components and systems in accordance with the Department and client’s procedures and standards. Be knowledgeable of and manage utilization of electrical power programs such as ETAP, SKM, CYME, CDEGS, and AGI32 lighting software. Strong physical understanding of laying out switchyards through 500kV, electrical gear and spaces, sizing branch circuits, laying out devices, lighting layout, and circuitry, including lighting controls, in accordance with the Energy Codes. Relay, protection, and control knowledge a plus. Knowledgeable of associated Codes and Standards, including the ANSI/IEEE, NESC, IBC, IECC, and the NEC. Experience working on Utility Company projects and/or dealing with utilities for clients is desired. Project Management, including Construction Administration activities such as management of submittal reviews, RFI responses, and Shop Drawing reviews. Extensive understanding of electrical construction procedures and systems/materials used in constructing electrical systems and components. Excellent verbal and written communications skills to support team coordination activities. Participate in annual reviews for employees and implement performance improvement plans for employees performing below expectations. Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects. Mentorship to younger personnel. Qualifications Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems preferred. Professional Registration required. Minimum of 10 years of experience designing and managing electrical systems in the Substation and Power Industry. Strong understanding of the ANSI/IEEE, NESC, NEC, IBC, and IECC. Required Skills The preferred candidate will have excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
