The Director, Anti‑Money Laundering (AML) leader for Capital One’s Enterprise Know Your Customer (KYC) program performs a key risk‑management leadership role in ensuring compliance with KYC regulations and maintaining regulatory standards.
We are seeking a candidate with deep AML/KYC subject‑matter expertise, excellent leadership, decision‑making, communication skills, a team‑first mentality, proven operational effectiveness, and vision to help shape Capital One’s KYC / KYP program and department. The successful candidate will lead a team of dedicated AML risk managers with the goal of providing holistic end‑to‑end AML KYC risk management, producing optimal risk‑management outcomes, and elevating our AML program.
We require an executive presence, excellent written and verbal communication, influencing skills, and the ability to adapt and be effective in Capital One’s progressive, dynamic culture.
Responsibilities :
Ownership and oversight of the Enterprise Know Your Customer (KYC) Standard and related policies and documents, including oversight of the Enterprise Know Your Partner (KYP) program for the card payment network.
Collaborate with Line of Business AML Advisors and Line of Business partners to assess the effectiveness of and compliance with the KYC Standard, ensuring consistent application.
Provide AML KYC/KYP consultation and guidance to internal stakeholders and executives on applying the KYC/KYP requirements, identifying and mitigating risk, developing mitigation plans (as warranted), and addressing other risk‑management and control activities related to KYC/KYP.
Provide senior management with effective, credible, and grounded challenge regarding AML/KYC/KYP regulatory risk and control management, ensuring management makes informed and appropriate risk decisions and allocates appropriate attention and resources.
Influence senior management to drive realization and mitigation of new and emerging risks, especially via structuring slides and presentations to convey risk information.
Provide leadership across the broader AML department for program enhancement and associate development.
Direct interaction with audit and external regulators with regard to responding to inquiries, examinations, and audits related to the KYC/KYP program.
Competencies :
Strong business judgment and analytical acumen, with the ability to evaluate complex, multi‑dimensional situations and risk characteristics, and formulate appropriate compliance recommendations and advice.
Highly developed interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and with external parties such as regulators and consultants.
Proven ability to lead teams through strategic initiatives and organizational changes, with the ability to connect, influence, and deliver results.
Basic Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent military experience.
At least 7 years of legal, compliance, risk management, or regulatory experience in consumer financial services.
At least 3 years of experience in the financial services industry.
At least 3 years of people‑management experience.
Preferred Qualifications :
Master’s degree.
2+ years of experience as a financial regulator (OCC, FRB, FDIC, FINRA).
Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) certification.
1+ years of operational experience with card products and card networks.

The minimum and maximum full‑time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries for part‑time roles will be prorated based on the agreed number of hours worked.
McLean, VA: $200,100 – $228,400
New York, NY: $218,300 – $249,100
Plano, TX: $181,800 – $207,500
Richmond, VA: $181,800 – $207,500
Wilmington, DE: $181,800 – $207,500
This role is also eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long‑term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non‑discretionary depending on the plan.
