Sun River Health is a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia and Westchester County. Sun River Health is currently seeking a full-time Dental Hygienist to join our team in Brooklyn NY.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Dental Hygienist

Under general supervision of the dentist, provide oral hygiene service and education to adult and pediatric patients.

Remove plaque, polish teeth, screen patients, review oral health history and teach brushing and flossing techniques.

Supervise and render dental hygiene care including removal of calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from exposed tooth surfaces, starting at the epithelial attachment.

Provide adult and child dental prophylaxes, full mouth debridement, topical fluoride, and dental sealants.

Perform full mouth periodontal charting for the supervising dentist to construct a periodontal treatment plan, including scaling and root planning provided by the RDH.

Place and expose X‑ray films when requested by a supervising dentist.

Takes impressions for study casts, removes temporary cement and restorations, or applies rubber dam when requested by a supervising dentist.

Perform other functions permissible in NYS as defined in the Dental Practice Act that may be delegated by a licensed dentist, such as local infiltration anesthesia following accredited continuing education.

Provide patient education, oral hygiene instruction, tobacco cessation and nutritional counseling emphasizing the relevance of oral health to overall health.

Provide HeadStart and ABCD visual oral health screenings.

Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirement: Associate’s Degree.

Minimum Work‑Related Experience: 0–1 year. Preferred Experience: 2–4 years.

Graduation from an approved dental hygiene school.

Valid New York State license to practice as a dental hygienist.

CPR Certification.

Valid NYS driver’s license.

Preferred Specialized Skills & Knowledge: Bilingual in English and Spanish (oral and written).

Salary Range $87,760.40 - $93,020.20 / annually (pro‑rated based on hours).
