Overview Administers the day‑to‑day Pilgrimage and Visitor Services operations of the Saint John Paul II Shrine. Coordinates the 365‑day‑a‑year exhibit, liturgical and facilities support for pilgrimage, group tours, general visitors, special events, and daily Mass attendees at the Shrine. Requires occasional nights and a rotating weekend schedule.

Core Responsibilities

Serves as Manager on Duty on assigned days (including weekends) and supports the Manager on Duty on other days as needed/during busy times. Includes managing the on‑site support for groups during their visit, ensuring that approved resources are provided, including tours. (40% time)

Participates in staff and planning meetings with various offices to ensure smooth operation of Shrine 365 days a year. Complies with all Knights of Columbus training and HR policies and PD expectations. (15% time)

Works on one specific area of responsibility as assigned by the manager (45% time). These areas, shared by the Visitor Services Team, include: calendaring (internal events and external groups), catering, room set‑up design, tours and training, supplies, and special projects. Each Visitor Services Specialist will be assigned one (or more) of these tasks, which can be changed/adapted as needed.

Skills & Qualifications Required

Experience working with diverse groups of people and providing exceptional customer service in a highly professional environment.

Basic knowledge of the Washington, DC area, local attractions and religious sites, metro, and general driving directions for Washington, DC.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Attention to detail.

Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred

Knowledge and understanding of Catholic Church protocol and Knights of Columbus protocol preferred.

Knowledge of the life and legacy of John Paul II a plus.

Ability to speak Spanish, French, Polish or other languages a plus.

Education

BA or BS degree.

1-3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Compensation The wage range for this role takes into account a broad array of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The range below applies as long as the work is performed in Connecticut; the Knights of Columbus reserves the right to adjust the wage range if the position is performed in another location. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $49,200–76,200.

Authorization to work in the United States is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Physical Demands Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a majority of the workday.
