Responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a program of activity/leisure pursuits designed to meet the social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, educational and physical needs and interests of residents in accordance with the comprehensive resident care plan. Responsibilities

Develop and implement comprehensive therapeutic recreation programs and services to meet psycho‑social, physical, and cognitive needs of residents. Assess, select, organize and implement recreational services tailored to individual resident needs and interests. Deliver activity/recreational programming to promote resident engagement and maintain functioning levels. Complete the “Preferences for Routine and Activities” section of the Minimal Data Set, the CAA when triggered, and the Company Recreation/Activity Evaluation within five business days of admission; attend and participate in Resident Care Plan Meetings; review and document resident progress regularly according to center policy. Conduct admissions interviews; document and complete the activities section of the MDS assessment tool; write corresponding CAA and care plans. Maintain a monthly calendar of available activity/recreational programs and post it in the center. Identify activity preferences and current activity pursuits from interviews and clinical record; identify health issues that reduce activity participation; document findings including source if applicable. Complete standardized assessment data for each resident at regular intervals and develop an individualized plan of care based on identified needs, strengths, and preferences. Implement strategies to assist residents with increasing involvement in activities appropriate to functional or situational limitations. Chart individual resident’s attendance and participation in group, individual, and one‑on‑one recreational pursuits daily; actively monitor activity to identify risk factors and/or change in condition. Plan community activities that jointly include the community, staff, families and residents. Assure physician’s approval for involvement in activity/recreational programs; maintain precautions/limitations list on each resident. Provide residents with opportunities and support for involvement in group and individual leisure pursuits (arts/crafts, community outings, religious activities, intellectual/educational activities, community/center service activities) based upon individual interests and needs; invite/encourage participation. Support each resident’s right to self‑determination; document resident refusal of activity services offered. Assist residents in the organization and implementation of Resident Council Meetings. Coordinate an effective Volunteer Program. Assist in planning, coordinating, and conducting continuing education programs and special in‑service training sessions relevant to department personnel. Participate in department budget planning and supplies monthly report to administrator; stay within budget for activity supplies and entertainment. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. Qualifications

Accreditation as a Certified Activity Director; completion of a state‑approved Activity Director training course. Bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy or related area; licensed or registered either nationally or by the State in which practising. One‑year experience as an Activity Director in long‑term care. Two years of experience conducting social/recreational programs within the past five years, one of which was full‑time in a resident activities program in a health care setting. Seniority Level
