General Manager A General Manager is a professional level sales and management position capable of supporting functions on both sides of the business. This role requires an understanding of store systems, automotive systems, parts knowledge, and the ability to identify, troubleshoot and project assist for DIY. The General Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining Professional Customer relationships and program growth, achieving financial metrics, and maintaining service and appearance standards. This is an exempt position requiring a minimum of 50–55 hours per week, average schedule of 5–6 days a week, 11‑hour shifts with rotating nights and weekends, and an hour for lunch. Additional hours may be required based on staffing, store conditions, sales objectives, and other business demands.

Primary Responsibilities

Achieve overall store sales goals and service objectives

Manage and grow Professional Customer relationships/sales, including building and holding the team accountable to executing customer action plans

Selection, hiring, development, performance management, coaching, scheduling, and engagement of store team members

Ensure execution of all inventory and operational standards

Coach all team members to deliver on customer expectations (DIY and Professional)

Manager on duty responsibilities (touch‑base coaching, floor/phone management, task assignment and completion, safety, open/close duties)

Lead change management initiatives

Embrace diversity and foster a respectful environment for customers and team members

Secondary Responsibilities

Provide DIY service including battery installation, testing, and wiper installation

Assist district/region in other functions upon request

Ability to recruit, select, hire and develop quality team members

Ability to build and grow relationships with professional customers

Essential Job Skills Necessary for Success as a General Manager

Working knowledge of automotive systems preferred

Speak and write English (Spanish a plus); communicate effectively and build strong relationships with customers, peers and upper management

Use Microsoft software effectively (Word, Excel required; PowerPoint preferred)

Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, sales increases, and gross profit percent

Ability to review and analyze business reports, such as profit and loss statement (P&L)

Hold others accountable, inspect work quality and give feedback in an inspiring manner

Ability to work an assortment of days, evenings and weekends as needed

Prior experience that sets a General Manager up for success

2–3 years of experience managing a team of 10–20 team members in a fast‑paced and highly dynamic retail environment

Successful experience managing profitability; proven financial and business acumen

Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), Bachelor’s degree in business or a related area preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have a valid driver’s license

ASE certification preferred, but not required

This job usually occurs indoors, but may occasionally be outside and exposed to various weather conditions while installing batteries and wiper blades. The employee is also occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, explosives and vibration. The noise level is usually moderate.

Position Details Position is eligible for sales commission based on individual or store performance. Base salary will likely be between $47,000 and $61,000 plus Bonus (actual salary will be determined by the hiring manager later in the process, based on experience and qualifications). (Most starting offers go out in the middle of this range)

Bonus Bonus is calculated off two metrics: 1) 6% commission on every compensation dollar, paid every four weeks; 2) 0.45% commission on every controllable profit dollar (controllable profit = profitability of the products sold after costs of Labour, Shrink, and MyDelivery are removed), paid quarterly.

Benefits 1st day of 401(k) eligible & company match (fully vested & up to 4%). After 30 days: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), PTO, Life, STD/LTD, pet insurance, and EAP. Will spend one week traveling for training.

GM II The leadership position of GM II requires a minimum of 52–55‑hour work week, with one weekend off per month. A GM II store will consist of a RPP and a CPP and 3 key‑holders with a total of 7–15 TMs for that store. Each store will receive 2–5 trucks of freight from a DC per week. The GM’s role is to uphold operational and customer service excellence and to control 4 Wall OI including Labour, Payroll, and Scheduling. The GM is responsible for developing and maintaining professional customer relationships and program growth. The GM also is responsible for company policy, procedures, and training while holding the team accountable to those standards.
