Our Opportunity Chewy is seeking a
Software Engineer I
for our Release Engineering team in
Boston, MA . At Chewy, we aim to be the most trusted and convenient destination for pet parents and partners worldwide. The Infrastructure Engineering organization develops services and tools to enable, support, and optimize software development processes across Chewy. In this role you will enhance existing systems with automation, improve developer experience and productivity, and build observability metrics for e‑commerce platform applications and beyond. You will work with a high‑performing engineering team, collaborating across the organization to deliver self‑service solutions that empower internal customers to move quickly while building on Chewy’s enterprise platforms.
What You’ll Do
Contribute to every aspect of the software development lifecycle
Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development
Debug production issues across services and technology stack
Continuously measure and optimize the performance, effectiveness, and uptime of backend services
Apply algorithms, data structures, and design patterns to build scalable and performant code
Collaborate with team members to standardize methodologies, workflows, reusable modules, and tooling
Contribute to the team’s standard processes for logging, testing, instrumentation, metrics, monitors, alerts, practices, and processes
Participate in design and code reviews
Participate in on‑call rotations and operational excellence
What You’ll Need
BS degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience
1+ years of professional experience in Software Engineering
Experience in React, Typescript, NodeJS
Team orientation and a customer‑first mindset
Proficiency in computer‑science fundamentals – object‑oriented design, data structures, algorithms, problem solving, and complexity analysis
Hands‑on engineer spending a significant percentage of time writing code or debugging tricky issues
Knowledge of professional software‑engineering practices for the full life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations
Knowledge evaluating, measuring, and tuning application performance
Experience working across fully automated stacks in a CI/CD ecosystem
Sharp analytical abilities and proven design skills with a working knowledge of design patterns
Knowledge of Test‑Driven Development
Bonus (if applicable)
Experience with Scrum, XP or other agile methodologies a plus
Good communication skills with both technical and business audiences
Knowledge with cloud & orchestration technologies (AWS Services, Terraform, Ansible, etc.)
Strong background with modern tools and environments (e.g., Chaos Engineering, web services, version control, bug/issue tracking tools)
Experience with configuration and deployment management via Terraform or Ansible
Infrastructure automation through DevOps scripting (e.g., shell, Python, Ruby, PowerShell)
Experience with data analysis/mining in large‑scale database environments a plus
The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, education, and work location. This position is eligible for 401(k) and a new‑hire and annual equity grant.

Base Salary Range
$102,000—$163,000 USD
