About The Team The Developer Platform organization at DoorDash builds the tools, services and frameworks that empower our engineers to build, ship, and launch new products. We drive engineering‑wide excellence across our three pillars: Quality, Velocity, and Efficiency.

About The Role We’re hiring a Senior Staff Engineer to serve as the technical lead for our Backend Developer Experience group. This group spans monorepo management, IDE tools, build and test systems, CI, frameworks/SDKs, and core platform services. In this hands‑on role, you will define the technical vision and drive execution across a wide range of developer productivity products, impacting every engineering team at DoorDash.

The role requires deep technical expertise, strong cross‑functional influence, and a passion for building excellent products that empower teams. You will mentor engineers, architect scalable solutions, and collaborate with other leaders to align our platform investments with engineering goals. You’ll work closely with your customers (your fellow engineers) and help identify and resolve their immediate pain points while also anticipating future needs so the team can deliver solutions proactively.

Develop and maintain foundational components to enable all DoorDash engineers to excel at backend engineering.

Collaborate with engineering leadership to drive long‑term architectural direction and influence company‑wide strategy.

Design and deliver AI‑powered solutions that augment the developer experience.

Champion data‑informed decision‑making and continuous improvement across the team.

Guide the organization through large degrees of ambiguity, leveraging industry best practices while also knowing when to break the mold.

Communicate with clarity, whether explaining a trade‑off to execs or mapping technical strategy across teams.

Demonstrate customer obsession by regularly engaging with and surveying engineers to understand their use cases and pain points.

Mentor engineers in their career as well as help define our engineering culture and best practices.

We’re Excited About You Because You Have…

10+ years of hands‑on software development, and expert proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Go.

5+ years designing and operating distributed systems and platform components at scale.

Proven expertise in CI/CD orchestration, build systems, frameworks, or platform development.

A strong bias for action, pragmatic problem‑solving, and deep technical expertise.

A deep understanding of how to build quality software and know how to balance this with delivering value to your customers.

Proven success leading cross‑functional initiatives with measurable impact.

Compensation The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the pay range listed below and is determined based on job‑related factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Base salary is localized according to an employee’s work location. Ranges are market‑dependent and may be modified in the future.

National base pay range: $231,200—$340,000 USD.

Compensation includes opportunities for equity grants.

Paid Time Off & Benefits

For salaried roles: flexible paid time off/vacation, plus 80 hours of paid sick time per year.

For hourly roles: vacation accrued at about 1 hour for every 25.97 hours worked; paid sick time accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
