This role is an exciting opportunity to lead and provide technical guidance on Stanley’s transportation projects, mentor junior staff, engage in professional organizations and technical committees, and help foster collaboration and growth within our Chicago office.
What You Will Be Doing
Serve as the drainage and stormwater technical lead on major transportation and infrastructure projects, overseeing all aspects of design and coordination
Provide technical guidance and oversight for drainage and stormwater design, including preparation and review of calculations, models, plans, specifications, and details
Prepare Phase II engineering plans and specifications for stormwater management systems, including drainage systems, detention facilities, culverts, and related infrastructure
Utilize hydraulics and hydrology modeling software to analyze and evaluate impacts of proposed improvements
Design, analyze, and review grading plans, flow calculations, detention pond sizing, storm sewer capacities, and other civil site design elements
Adhere to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual
Participate in project scoping, fee estimating, proposal preparation, interviews, and negotiations
Train and/or mentor junior staff
Represent the company at public meetings, conferences, interviews, and industry events
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four‑year college or university
Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months
Minimum 12 years of experience in roadway stormwater drainage design
Experience with Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois Tollway drainage design requirements, policies, and procedures
Demonstrated ability to produce comprehensive drainage plans, including plans, profiles, detailed drawings, specifications, calculations, estimates, and all necessary documentation
Proven experience using drainage design and hydraulics/hydrology modeling software, including Open Roads Designer & StormCAD, PondPack, HY‑8, HEC‑RAS, XPSWMM, and other industry‑standard tools
Working knowledge of Bentley Systems roadway design software used to prepare engineering and design documents including Open Roads and Open Roads Designer (ORD)
Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and lead teams to successfully complete tasks and projects
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with alternative delivery projects
Stanley’s Approach to Flexibility Eligible positions offer a hybrid schedule of two days a week in the office, two days a week remotely, and a flexible Friday that can be worked either in the office or at home. Eligible roles may also offer a compressed workweek, with a 9/80 schedule that provides every other Friday off.
