As a Staff Data Scientist on the Applied AI team, you will shape the future of AI‑driven products at Google. You will conduct research, develop novel methodologies, and apply your expertise to solve complex business problems. You will collaborate with engineers and scientists to push AI boundaries.
Applied AI builds conversational agents deployed at large scale that achieve meaningful results in the real world. Examples include a customer agent for large call‑center environments and a fast‑food ordering agent. The team transforms how enterprises connect with customers through AI, offers experiences with model builders (DeepMind/Vertex), AI leaders, and access to Global 1000 customers via Google Cloud relationships.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with stakeholders in cross‑project and team settings to clarify business or product questions, translating them into tractable analysis, evaluation metrics, or mathematical models.
Use custom data infrastructure or existing data models, applying specialized knowledge to design and evaluate models that mathematically express and solve defined problems with limited precedent.
Gather information on business goals, priorities, and organizational context around the questions to answer, as well as existing and upcoming data infrastructure.
Own the process of gathering, extracting, and compiling data across sources via relevant tools (SQL, R, Python). Format, re‑structure, or validate data to ensure quality and review the dataset to ensure readiness for analysis.
Compensation US base salary range: $197,000–$291,000+ bonus + equity + benefits. Salary determined by role, level, location, and relevant factors. Recruiter can share specific range for preferred location during the hiring process.
